With all the preparation and bracing that you have installed it will go back together easily ...it looks scary now but once the roof goes back on its gonna be a different car ! Keep up the great work !!

Dan found it in this neck of the woods, a guy had found it in a ravine in Central WA and mocked it up as yard art. Dan bugged the guy until he would sell it. The guy knew what it was, and what it was worth..but probably figured it was too far gone.

 

It was too far gone.....but worth a try.
Anyway, i was thinking it had a racing past, due to the dents and the roof (cut away and changed)....but really makes no difference. I am planning a full fender early sixties style car, with ET wheels, chopped top and blown Chevy engine with a manual trans . I really wanted to install the 392 Hemi I have in a corner of my place.....but also want to run full hood on the car, so the Hemi is ruled out.

Very excited that you're saving this thing. It's definitely worth all the sweat and hard work. I'm going to try to save my 5w eventually and I'll probably look back at this thread for inspiration.

Oh and I totally get the HEMI and hood thing. I'm fighting that same internal battle in my head. I just don't like the look of blisters so I go back and forth.

 

yes. it's a tough decision....I have Hemis on my 35 and my 32...and woul love to install another on the 3W

 

The gentleman I bought this car from had no idea of the history. I believe he bought it from a guy who pushed it into a creek on its roof for one hundred dollars or less. He did not know anything more.

Do you plan to media-blast the body at some time? Maybe when all the welding repairs are done?
I also wouldn't mind seeing more pics of that tudor next to the coupe, looks very interesting too.

I am very afraid of blasting.....am afraid the blasting can warp the thin metal.
In Italy it's very difficult to find someone specialized in old cars, and nobody knows about media blasting

I'm in a similar situation. Afraid what blasting the car will give me back when it's all said and done. So what I think I am going to do is dip it in molasses for a couple weeks, then spot blast the remaining areas if needed very gently. then do all the panel work from there. I figure it needs to been absolutely as clean as I can get it if there're going to be a tig weld anywhere on that car.

I love builds like this!!......nothing better than turning something that nobody wanted into something everybody wants.., I can't wait to see the body finished out...

 

I agree that sand blasting has ruined lots of tin, but we have media blasting available here and i have had a few bodies done and had no problems. These guys are experienced at doing old cars and do a good job.
Can be pricey at a dollar a minute but they get them as clean as possible.
I have also heard good things about the molasses too.

It is amazing the patience and skill that has gone into this body that most people would not even think of taking on. Good for him.

 

I haven't priced mole asses lately, but at a dollar a minute I'm thinking that sounds like a bargain compared to 10(?) 55 gallon drums and a container big enough to hold a car body!
