Why does it have to be a Chevy. why not 9IN Ford mors gears easyer to narrow more avable and a better rear end

  3. full-size GM's from the mid 70's - mid 80's will work but are coil sprung,(some are small bolt pattern wheels, some are 5 on 5) you'll need to remove the brackets. ...2nd generation Camaro/F-bird also work....and S-10 4 wh. drive rears.

I used late 70's half ton Chevy truck rear in mine. Six bolt lugs. Cheap to rebuild and if I remeber it was 3/4 of an inch narrower then the stock rearend. Tucks the stock rims nice.

My Grandson and I used a 99 Chevy Blazer 4X4 on our 51 chevy 1/2 frame.Worked very nice.We are using slicks with 15X8 rims. You may have to use longer lugs and wheel spacers as we had to cut the sides of the bed to clear tires.Hope tis helps you.

I used a 74 nova in my 48...and it worked well. Also put the spring mounts up inside the frame to lower it.

No need to put crappy Ford parts in your Chevy. That would be a step backwards. Keep it all G.M. My friend used a S10 rear end and tranny on his 49 Chevy truck.

55 - 62 chevy passenger car, and it has the same BP if you swap passenger 50-54 passenger drums onto the front spindles.

The 60's era Chevy II 10 bolts measure 60" wms to wms w/5 on 4 3/4" dbc. I used one from a '67 wagon... I always thought the '68 and later Nova's and Camaro's were a little wider but I never measured one... They all had leaf springs(or spring)...

I used a 2nd gen Camaro.. Its great for regular offset wheels. Plus late you can find an 8.5.. a lot stronger. Only beef is the spring purchase are not in the right location and the gears suck in those years. Also, avoid a triangulated 4 link setup. I put one in mine and I am still not sure its going to stay located... but I am going to give it a shot.

Also, on the nova note, I personally think they are to narrow. I had to use 1.5inch spacers for any wheel I wanted to put under there.

    Yes.

You need something very close to 62 inches wide.

3rd gen camaro is 62.5 inches.

They're readily available, good gearing choices, just cut all the coil mount stuff off, and go.
