Customs 1949-54 Chevys (Where Did They Go?)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scotch Buzzard King, Nov 2, 2011.

  1. I still see them just not in as great supply as what I use to see them. I have a Rod and Custom from 2008 that marked the 49-54 Chevy as still cheap and plentiful to build. I remember just a few short years ago that I use to see some around my city. Now I don't see any. Around 2004, I use to see a bunch here in town. I use to see as many 49-54 Chevy's in this town as I would Model A Ford's. There use to be a ton of those here too. Now nothing. It's very disappointing. :(

Got a '54 that I've been collecting parts for. Last item I'm lacking is the rear splash pan. The green '54 is a donor car which i'll probably flip the body & the '51 is currently for sale but I'll probably end up buying parts, chop the roof lower and c-notch it. Next year I'll start an official build topic for the '54.

1946-1954 are my favorite model of chevy bombs, just can't get enough of them.

There a lot of hell for nice ones out there but when you go to a show like Billetproof a lot of the 49/54 Chevys are rather quiet in appearance and don't catch the photographer's eye. Around here they (especially the four doors) are still in the affordable driver category for the most part. There is a 54 two door post on Craigslist right now that needs work but says it has the motor and trans for 1300. That is affordable for most guys looking for a project but I don't have a spare 1300 at the moment. It was posted on the 4th if someone decides to hunt for it.

I also remember the big ‘49-‘54 Chevy push that went on the mags a couple years ago. I suspect that was the first wave, which in turn inspired a bunch more builds - causing some cars to disappear from the streets as their owners (or new owners), inspired by the coverage, work them over. In a couple more years, the next wave should come as those cars begin to re-emerge.

I see very few of them at shows and such, but thanks to CT I've started chatting with a bunch of '49-'54 owners in my general area- so we're out there. We're just a quite lot.

I sold mine, and you know everyone follows me. Every time I go out for a drive, thousands of people right behind me.

  13. That's the same car? Nice, mate. Real nice. So how did you make it a 2-door? Did you extend the front doors, or did you have a donor set of 2-door salvaged doors?

Ah, this thread will make a good first post. Here is my '53 Chevy 210 convertible as I found it, behind a barn on a ranch in Hill City, Idaho in 1983. The rancher dude wanted to just give it to me but I insisted he take $25 so I could get a receipt and make it official! It sat until a year ago, I'm currently in the process of doing a ground up restoration on it.

  20. '53. That's a good year. This is a great place to post a build thread on your progress. I would definitely be interested in seeing it. Don't forget to post an introduction thread so the others don't get mad at you. :D

I have slowed down progress with the holidays ( money/time )
But here is my 53, I have just finished flogging about 50 miles on her and taken her to a few cruise-ins. she's a blast.

Can I trouble one of you guys for a some what close up shot of a '53 hood ornement and the surrounding area on the hood? Hate to ask such an off beat question, but I'm laying out a '53 hood to punch and I'm not sure where the ornement fits in relation to where my louvers need to go.
    Thanks, Chip
