No, I don't own the original California Kid (it is still in Missouri and still owned by Jason and Jerry Slover).
My "Kid" is a tribute to the original and I like to think as close as you can get considering it is a '33.
The Slovers were instrumental througout my build with help that made this project impossible without them. While I am honored people have trouble telling them apart, I never attempt to pass my car off as the original.
It is an all steel '33-3window and all the attention to the details found on the original were painstakingly recreated in this build.

Here is a pic of myself and Jason Slover at this year Street Rod Nationals standing by.... which car?
Even though mine isn't the original, you can not imagine the thrill I get driving this car down the road!
Jason and Jerry Slover both are class acts and I am proud to call them my friends.
    Cheers!

I agree, that back tail dragger is awesome!
I wonder if that didn't start out as a 5 window?
Notice the back of the cab behind the door.
    Anyone know more?
    Cheers!

Thanks for the pics so far, I'm slowly learning here. Please may I ask what era metallic paints and alloy wheels became common - such as Hallibrands, Torkers or the wheels fitted on the California Kid?

    Thanks.

Thanks - as I'm new to this genre of the hobby and with this being my first Rod, I'm gathering as much information as I can so I can decide what I like the look of the most, then target that particular era and build an authentic traditional rod, or close variation on the theme.

So far, the details I'm liking are a decent chop, full fenders, plenty of chrome, especially the grill, traditional lights, latches, catchs and handles etc, nice rake, fairly low, strong colour, but not too modern - maybe a bronz or copper metallic for instance, maybe black? Bright period wheels, maybe with white wall? Maybe not.

Keep the pictures coming, really appreciated.

Wow after seeing that pic, I'm almost positive I'm going to completly change the entire direction of my build. Including un-chopping it since my doors are un-cut and I still have the cut-offs. I had stalled on my project because I wasn't happy with the direction, I've had the idea in my head for a few months, and that pic seals the deal. I'm going 1964 G/G.
    Heres mine as it sits.

And the build thread with the back story on why it is the way it is.
