Features my first custom...'49 ford tudor

cut a chunk out out of back bracing......probably have to cut more out on the top of the trunk lid...
all in all, I think I can treat most of the underside rust issues....

thanks....cut the latch support out so I could get the fast etch to penetrate the whole area.....then put the fast etch to her......

 

as always, I found some hidden issues to deal with......I decided this approach, "rust welding" ..... the good thing about the "fast etch" treatment is it stabilizes the rusty metal so you can weld it better than untreated rusty metal.....if it doesn't turn out, I'll weld a patch panel on the whole bottom of the lid.....lowest setting on welder,hammer every weld, and patience......just welded the back of the lid so far...lots more work to go ,but it's a good start.....

 

I hesitate to post these pics....I'm not the sharpest metal smith in the drawer....this is the best I can do for now without replacing the bottom of the lid with new metal....when I get the back structure welded in , I'll lead the welds to make them smooth.....
I started to fab up some metal pieces to replace the rotten pieces I had cut out....

the structural support work of the trunk lid is shaping up pretty good...

 

will mocking up the trunk lid fit, I noticed the section by the lid latch was formed incorrectly. It was initially curved, but I had formed it straight .To correct it, I cut the welds out, hammer formed the curve back into the lid,and added a 6" piece of metal as a shim to keep the curve in place, mocked her up and I think it will work.......

well the trunk lids been bugging me, so I got out the lead and repaired it.....I'm not the best leader but I enjoy the hell out of it........

looks like solid work to me. great job so far.

 

trunk lid sanded, treated with zinc phosphate, need to lead a few more spots.....hood was stripped, ready for sanding

got side tracked on another project....back on the tudor....
made some patch pieces to fill in the door handle, gas fill hole and lock holes.......
will fill in with lead.....

got the handle & key holes leaded in........ this handy little lead filling tool works well for the smaller jobs.......next the poison......epoxy primer.....

I use the fast etch on all my metal surfaces, so far I've had great results..
it's also great for preparing surfaces to be welded.......

 

Looking great!!! havent been on in a couple weeks. My progress has stalled due to other responsibilities. I like the fact that you started with the base first, getting breaks, tranny, etc done first.

 

used the metal 2 metal body filler by Evercoat......
next, blow out the garage and put the poison to her.......epoxy primer

 

got her epoxy primered........

 

wow! moving right along looks good.

 

what size is the rear end? know the width? are u doing a 4 bar bracing or standard mount? got three waiting to do. i'll keep watching.

the rear on the tudor is a maverick 8" ,5 lug........doing leaf spring, standard mount...
1969-1977 maverick 8" ,outside width 56.50
the rear on the garage floor is a 1957 f-100, 9''....the first yr. that ford came out with the
9" rear.....that's for my 49' f1 build....it looks like it will bolt right in......

 

well, I might be satisfied now......
I finally found the right pan to meet my application and fit the 302 ,c-4 into the shoebox....I bought it from a fellow HAMBER...terry k.....
the stang headers will clear the stock steering box...so will the 351w rear discharge stock manifold
the 351w that was in the car will now be used in my '49 f-1, '50 cab build
