on the left side of the roof, on the c pillar just next to the rear glas i think theres a filler panel.
One possible option is that the car was indeed a coupè but was in an accident, if they had the tail section to graft to the sedan body why not graft the whole roof too?

Still, its a great project, and a very difficult one too. i could take me 4 years to put it back on the road....

the title (South Africa) is the vin: JC 7811

  3. Quick PS for you.... this will look really good with a mild chop and a bit of work on the roof.

you are great! Thank thank! :)

  5. Seeing that the car was from South Africa, it could have been assembled locally using knock-down kits from the US. Local talent would dictate the quality of the body, and the type of panels they could handle. Having seen South American assembled Fords (from KD kits), the quality of the body assembly can be pretty rough.

I have had several cars from Australia and South Africa and can confirm what Michigander says. They are often coachbuilt and the execution is crude. Australian Ford bodies were built this way up until 1939 and although at first glance they resemble their US counterparts, closer inspection reveals that they are very different both in dimensions and construction. I have had several Aussie Ford and Willys models pass through my hands and so speak from first hand experience. I am not an expert on Grahams but does anyone know if their RHD vehicles were shipped overseas as SKD or CKD assemblies - such as Willys shipped to Australia as SKD?

  7. Homemade or not, i think it's a great project car and nice to see it in Europe

The most telling sign is the missing character line on the rear quarters, which seem to be smooth.
Nice project - James D's photoshop is right on. This could become an absolutely killer custom. Good luck!

  17. You can just tell everyone it´s a "coachbuilt coupe" - much more rare than the boring, common, standard coupe. And anyway, what it is, is a lot less important than what it can be.

This one can be a brilliant signature line.
Actually it could even be t-shirt material. Way to go James:cool:

    Nice :):):)

I agree with you that it's a hybrid. I have an earlier Graham, and there are plenty of factory joins and welds but their quality is superb.

It will make a great hot rod either way though:D

Great to see there are some relatives to my project here on the hamb.

As others have said, do watch out for Graham clubs and the like. They don't take well to hot rods!
