Tight to the tire fender wells and seats from "Hand Made Seat Co" will put me 1.5" higher than stock. Have to take 4" out of the steering column still though...

  4. My dad had a Chevy van in his druggie days in the mid 70s.

That stupid thing had wall to wall shag carpeting in it, which seemed like a good idea until it was actually installed. In the 90 degree + heat of south Texas, new carpet off-gasses and stings your eyes like you can't imagine.

Other than that though, it was memorable.....captain's chairs, a bar, cabinets, killer 8-track sound system and a CB Radio.

His handle was "cookie monster" if there are any other CBers from south Texas around 1976 or so.

We spent a lot of time in that dern van. Lot's of camping out on South Padre Island like a bunch of hippies.

What a time to be a kid.

If anyone was at the Goodguys Columbus this year, there was a really creepy one menacing the fairgrounds. I didn't get any pictures, and don't remember what year it was. It was black, chopped at an angle (looked like the back wasn't chopped at all but the windshield was little), the rear was jacked up and it had a serious motor w/open exhaust.

  6. Those A100s with the slant six are just dripping with cool.

    I want one bad.

Of course, I want about 50 different vehicles "bad". I think I need help. :p

Gman I wouldn't expect that kind of hating from a longroof man. You guys are almost as weird as van guys.

Hey KSNPVMT. I assume you already cut out the inside of your doors to get them to shut? Is the dodge set up like the econoline where the inner wheel wells violate the doors? That's more or less the condition mine was in when started.

Gman, they have hit Hot Rod, Truckin' and Hot Rod Deluxe mags in the past year. That was verboten for years. Church's van has raised the bar (by a LOT) and brought new light to these rides.
Church, yes same deal where the door cutout is an inch or 2 from the gap.
You might want to share a picture or 2 of your wheelwells and door inners so these guys can see the huge effort you went to to make it all work and fit.

Oh ya! Sorry to say my windows probably wont go all the way down when complete either. Going probably stick up 2". But that is with a 15" wheel.
Love your van by the way!!!!!!

Don't cut into the door TOO much, or the glass won't go in at all. We almost found that out the hard way. Windows not going all the way down isn't bad at all. It's actually about the right height to rest your arm on when driving. Add some extra support to the steering column as well, as you will find yourself leaning on it on long trips. Looking forward to seeing progress.

The window track will connect to the new notched section and seem to work great...just shorter. I am also going with a round tub to cut less. Have to shorten the column still. thanks for the advise! I will get some pics up later in the week when i get a chance to get back to work on it......

Just chop the roof while you are at it and the window will fit no problem.
