Very unusual! I've never seen a Somerset; looks like a coupe. What is the line straight up from the rear wheelwell opening?
Trouble: Your Oddy Austin is beautiful. You've done a fantastic job on the restoration. I was studying the engine in some other pics you posted, and you really did your homework getting all those rare blower drive parts, timing cover/pump drive, etc... It's all those extra little touches that really make the difference on a restoration. Best of luck on final steps of the restoration. Mark
The Somerset has been 'Couped' they never made them like that, these cars were named by Austin after English Counties, Devon was the four door, Dorset was the Two door sedan like Jim Oddy's, most were exported so they are super rare in the UK. The Somerset model followed the Devon and was produced from '52-54, it looked similar but had a bigger rear end (trunk, not axle). Four doors only and a few convertibles. So now you know. L.P.
Here's a couple from way-back-when, around the mid 80's in the UK!! And this one's a bit more modern (pic stolen from the web)...
Thanks Mark i cant stress what Great close TALENTED buddys I have they made the car what it is I helped a bit. Thanks for the nice words !! Trouble
This is still around - "Devon" Dave Lowes car. he was at Wheels Day with it this year. Looks even better now. I´d love one of these little cars - maybe a panel van, since Dorsets are impossible to find.
Not wrong Warren Goodall lived on the other side of the rail line where I grew up. This thing was unreal to see run.
There once was a man from Boston who owned a baby Austin , it had rusty doors and holes in it's floors and his balls fell out and he lost them!
This was indeed a good looking car. Middelbrook ran the car orginally in the BB/GS circuit here in California. It served as one of the last traditional bodied gassers to run in the supercharged class. It eventually found itself as a CC/A when the NHRA dumped the blown gasser classes.
Mine's getting a facelift this winter! Just completed upgrades to the 327 Chevy, and hope to get paint on it in the next couple months, then re-lettered.
