Here's mine, but you've seen it already! And here's one of your's I took when it stopped by my house on the way home:
I was just looking at pics of Jim's car the other day in Gasser Wars. His car was always a contender, and always so nice looking. He often gets overlooked when the big names in gassers get mentioned, but he deserves a lot of credit for keeping the sport alive back then!
John Cassiol has Oddy's Austin and is restoring it. Oddy is still around and making waves building engines.(Woops, looks like he sold the shop in 2006) He did pretty with the Oddy & Hahn Pro Mod team a few years ago too. Larry T
Oddy wasn't overlooked by the NHRA. The NHRA presented Jim Oddy with a lifetime achievement award at the NHRA Reunion this year in Bowling Green, KY. His Austin has been undergoing a ground up 100% correct restoration by its current owner. The car is about 85% finished and was at Bowling Green for show and pictures. Even Jim Oddy was impressed with how correct and how well its turning out. F.Y.I.: Jim Oddy has been instrumental with restoration process.
You might want to check out Rob Stuart's Austin Works website, if you haven't already seen it. http://www.austinworks.com/gassers.html Larry T
Yes, Rob`s website is good source of info & pictures, too. Your truck is looking great. And here`s a couple of pictures of my Austin. I wish it was done ,but my racing got a little bit in the way this year. Gasserman
Jim Oddy was a true icon in the gasser world ! Remember watching him run in the mid to late 60s at Niagara Dragway intil they shut the track down.
I Like them all! Here is a shot of the one I'm currently working on. If anyone has any Austin parts please shoot me a PM.
Yes! Rob has been very generous with his time and direction in chasing down hard to find Austin parts! He knows a lot of people all over the world who have Austins and parts. He helped me find the elusive A10 badge for my grille that was missing! He's a great guy!
That's great news Mick! It's always great to see another original gasser brought back to life. Do you have any original color photos of the car that you can post??? I'm interested in the wild paint scheme it seems to have in the B&W pic.
No, I havent seen any, but im looking. Its going to stay that blue mostly, but will have some paintwork done to make it look "right" . Its going to be my latest "Warlock" ride.
Mick: That's great you're getting the old Fat Boy's Folly Austin. What are you going to do with your current Austin project? I have a color picture or two of that car somewhere. It was yellow with candy green stripes and panels, and so on. I'll see if I can dig them up and post them tonight.
Thanks, any pics would be great. This is going to be the new Austin project. I had to move the other one when I got this one. I actually tried to buy this one first, just couldnt work it out.
I dug up a couple of pics I had. Here's a magazine article from the old Anglia News (which became Gasser Wars Magazine).
Thanks!! I always wondered what it looked like back then. Cant tell from the B&W photos. The guy I got it from is the one who wrote that article, hes had it about 20 years.
