Well my dumbass move of the day. Locked my keys in the trunk of my '54 packard. Is there an easy way out of this or is there a locksmith in my future?
I was on my way out of the shop and wasn't paying attention. Not sure why I even had them in there. Gonna have to fool with it tomorrow I guess.

    Thanks in advance

Never had a Packard, but I'd have to try pulling the back seat out.

Sawzall. If that doesn't work try the gas axe. A last resort involves a giant prybar, wedged between the quarter panel and trunk lid.

A lot of cars had the same key work the trunk and the glove box. I have taken the glove box locks to locksmiths and gotten keys that opens the trunks. They can read the code on the lock and cut from that.

call a locksmith and bite the bullet.

it will cost way more to repair any damage done with prybars, torches and what have ya than it would to get a guy to pick the lock

Check your insurance policy, a lot of them carry locksmith services free. I was paying for it for years and never used it. Just a thought.

glove box may not have all the tumblers that the trunk does.

Call a locksmith before you try anything else.

  16. There is a key code on the door lock, glove box lock Ign lock. a lock smith can make keys from the code also the lock can be picked. Locksmith can impression lock and mak a key. I know I could.I am a locksmith.

Maybe try another similarly sized key in your key drawer/jar?
You'd be surprised how loose and worn old lock tumblers can be. I keep a jar of old car keys and can usually open up/start any car I may buy without keys using a key from that jar.

Go to the bad part of town, you'll soon find someone who'll get into in no time at all.

How rotten is the floor? Can you reach in through the bottom?

The Air-con unit wont take up the whole area, surely. Take out the backseat and try a length of wire to hook them.

My worst nightmare, until i had a spare made.

Once i managed to lockmyself out of the car while it was runnin! at idle of course, hahah,
For some reason when i slammed the door it locked itself! i didnt have a spare key at the time. bad situation i tell ya....

  24. Remove the back seat. Mirror on a stick and a flashlite. Magnet should grab the key ring.

If that doesn't work, reach in with an air ratchet/socket and blast off the 4 trunk hinge bolts.

Old car locks have loose tumblers. Try some similar keys. Flatten an 8D nail on an anvil. I used to be able to get into, and even start my 55 Chevy with one.

Last resort; slide hammer the lock cylinder out, then replace it. This might be cheaper than the locksmith charge ($75?).

I did that in HS except my truck was at my friends house and my spare was across town at home

back on subject locksmith or the backseat route with a magnet sound like the best options to me

This worked for me. The locksmith made a key off the glovebox lock, and he only charged me $10.

  29. I did this with a 64 Fairlane about 20 years ago and did the whole back seat thing.

I removed the back-rest of the back seat (didn't need to pull the bottom part) and since the keys were sitting on the floor of the trunk, there was no need to pop the trunk lid. I simply retrieved the keys.

Now that they make those magnets on the long retractable stick, it should be even easier.

Remove the tail light lenses to see if the po taped in a spare key. I found one that way in an old GTO I once had. Seemed to be a common thing to do back in the day.
