  1. I really approve of your reinforced bracketry at the shackle mounts on the front wish bones. Looks like it should be rigid. Good job!

Great Job ! Keep us posted , that is gonna be one sweet pick-em up when you are done .

  3. I really wanted to run the stock transverse spring in the rear. After getting it all mocked up, here's what I came up with for a spring perch...

I stared at it for a long time and didn't like it. Finally decided to go to Plan B...(gasp) coilovers

Here's the four link all tacked in and checked for bind, clearance issues, etc.

And here it is all done and painted. Sorry, no progress pics, I was on a time crunch so I could get to Hershey :D

  4. Started on the bed today. Got the tailgate at the Hershey swap meet last week.

    The plan...

    The layout...

    Driver side panel done...

  5. Got the front bed panel made up...

Then made the frame work out of 3/4" square tube...100% TIG welded, that took awhile :)

Next up I welded the frame work to the sheetmetal...

Made a hole for the driveshaft too, still gotta cut the cab...

Here's the filler panel for below the tailgate. Looked kinda blan so I decided to mount some '54 Buick taillites in it.

All welded up and ready to mount. Definitley more truck looking now

Looking good Dan. What gauge sheet metal did you use? Whats the length of the bed?

  7. Thanks Dave!

It's 40" long. All the sheetmetal is 16ga.

  16. great job... starting my 33 pick-up this fall and will probably use a few of your ideas. thanks!

  17. Think it through and go for it, what's the worst that can happen? If somebody else can do it, why can't I? :D:eek:

    Dont be a dick................dick! :)

    Thanks!

The more I learn the less I know

Thanks Terd! I gotta see and hear your Caddy motor in person one of these days!

    Thanks Skater!

Thanks Dustin! Nothing better than looking at build threads...just trying to do my part :D

Cool! Look forward to seeing some pics of it.

  18. Here's what I came up with for tailgate latch holder things.

1/2" allen head bolt and a button head bolt of un-remembered size.

    TIG'd the center solid...

Cut the button head off and TIG'd it to the 1/2" allen...

All ground down and smoothed out...

TIG'd on a piece of chain...

    On the truck...

The fit is tight enough that you have to give it a little side to side twist to get it in, so I'm not worried about it popping out going down the road....hopefully :)

  21. Nice Dan!
You could always drill a hole through the thread in the bottom of the bolt and add a safety pin.

Dan, that's great work there. It looks like a '40 axle you are using up front. Are you going to run into problems with the tires hitting the wishbones after you split them? How wide is your frame?

I am planning to build a frame for a '27 roadster soon with a '40 axle myself and was worried about the wider turning radius so I figured I'd ask you. Great work again, I am subscribing!

Grate work ! Post more pic's

  30. I measured the frame as best I could with the engine in the way. It looks to be around 29" wide where the wishbones mount.

Obviously I haven't had it on the road to try out yet but from pushing it in and out of the garage, moving around the driveway, etc. it seems to have a sufficent turning radius. It certainly won't be as tight as a compact car but I don't belive it's gonna take a 40 acre field either :D
