Dont know but as i understand the black sand is used for "light pressure casting" . It gets hard when pressed together and is also re-usable.

The sand we had was mixed up together with a binder liquid. As we did the lathe metod it was the way to go, this sand is not reusable.

Later on when the model is done and there is time for casting the real 4 centers we are going for the light pressure casting ...with black sand :)

This method for making a model might seems a little bit strange but I just dont have a cnc lathe and if I ask someone to do it for me I better open up my walet.
A very good friend of mine have this alu casting shop and we have fun doing it. :)

Thanks you guys for all the positives :)

Lifting the half to take out the sand-center out and be possible to fill it up with aluminum.

It was exciting to see a Milner coupe get chopped up and reborn.

Then I was impressed with the fab work. Very nice!

AND THEN, you go an make your own wheels! Whoa!!

As for the paycheck every two weeks, if you feel like moving to the good ole USA, I can help you with that. :D Although our last overseas relocation hire didn't work out, I think we'd all be willing to give it a go again for work like that. Very nice.

........and the frontside, sadly there was a misstake using the "black liquid". It made the frontside a little but ruff but I think some grinding will do it .

WOW! I never thought about making your pattern out of sand! That makes it SUPER easy.

...excuse me while I go fire up my foundry.

Build my own Hi Tech Lathe today to be able to grind the center, at the start I used a hand-held drilling machine for motor. After some hard time with the grinder in left hand and the drill in the right hand I figuerd out that that the grinder worked perfect as the grinder and motor at the same time when I held it against the wheelcenter.

So is the disc a dummy front to give the early Halibrand type look, or will it be a structural piece??
Looks great after the cleanup, but doesn't look strong enough around the outer edge to attach to a rim as a structural piece.

It's a model that wont be on the car, I will glue on 5 ribbs on the backside to make the real once stronger. The disc is also a 1/2 inch thick. When we cast the 4 real once the ribbs and center will be one solid part. Hope you understand :)

On the frontside there will be some text around the midsection, 3/8 inch tall.
Anyone with some idea about what to write ?

Always great to see a 5 window saved and put back on the road, especially one that was screwed up. Looks great so far and your work is excellent! Love the initiative to build your own wheels, bigger balls than I.

Thank you guys for all nice feedback :)

This saturday gave me 6 hours in the shop, some more tig welding and also done with the rear notching. Ended the day grinding the boxing-plates.
