What will the 2011 Texas State Championship Race be like? Well, here are the reactions of a group of fellow HAMB'ers following last year's race that might give you a good idea:

What a day! Lots of incredible things to see, stands were full, racing was intense!

    - Maxcackle

Thanks to Ed Miller and the TTA crew...we had a great weekend with a lot of friends …What a nice track and friendly staff. …Thanks again for creating a venue for all the "real racers" mixed in with "our old timey Little River kind of cars".. We'll be back[IMG]!!! Whooo Hoooo!!!!

    – Skot

Yep, we gotta support all the local events that want us there!!! It was a great time… and an awesome track!!!! We will definitely be back next year.

    - Rusty

I really enjoyed it. I love Day of the Drags, but it's like having only one bookend. I think this event completes the set.

    – Scottybaccus

Got there early, stayed late, and had a great time! That was the highest quality drag racing I've seen in a long time. The members of the TTA and other clubs and organizations that put it on can be proud of themselves. Congratulations. Thanks for putting on a great show. We will be there next year.

    – Thom Mead

Great race!! Well worth the 1260-mile round trip from Bella Vista, Arkansas!!

    – OldTopGasser

Had a great time there! Glad to see all my long distance friends!

    – Dirty2

As a vendor, there was no BS from you or your team, and after doing shows for 30+ years it is a joy to work with people who let you go do yo thang instead of powerplaying. Man, that was a fun event and.…had a real Blast! Saw lots of friends and customers from way back and I still heard cars running at midnite! Let's do it again, and mo wheelies!

    - MikeysPinstriping

Nice to get to run my non-HAMB friendly car with friends. As a suggestion, Ed, please start the racing earlier or make this a two day race. Us old folks get a little cranky after our bed time.

    – Junior Stock

It was a great event for the first one in San Antonio, and it's great that it will be back in 2011!

    – Kenneth S

What a great time! Good to see everyone, and glad to see so many familiar faces make the trip to San Antonio!

Sounds like a great time! Question.. "There will also be a dozen drag racing classes for classic Gassers, Super Stockers, and Street-Driven Traditional Hot Rods & Customs." Will they run heads up or index?

Heads up or Index? Both. All classes except for Bracket Eliminator run heads up, but they will run heads up on one of a dozen different indexes that will pair up cars that run similar ET's so we have close races that are fair for everybody. In addition to running whatever Index category you want to run, you can also run Bracket, and, if you get beaten in Bracket, you can buy back in. Lotsa chances to race!

Will be there with the FED running with the Southwest Jr. Fuel Association.

  16. Will there be any payout for the lower classes? Just wondering, haven't seen it posted.Any money is better than no money. Everyone that participates has travel and fuel costs to reckon with. What is the cutoff on class payout? Looks like this might get busy.

This year, winners get a really nice wooden trophy and receive a $100 gift certificate from Alamo Hot Rod Parts.

There’s not even a payout for the upper classes. Ask Donnie Anderson how much he got for winning Top Fuel last year. Nada. Check out the Day of the Drags at Little River, the Nostalgia Nationals at Yellowbelly, and the Texas Thaw at Denton and you’ll find the same situation: current production expenses preclude any significant cash payout to the winners of the dozen or so classes in the race. It’s just Economics 101.

The tracks trying to increase their draw by paying out money are the ones going out of business. Ask around. Tulsa Raceway Park paid out all it could, is now broke after 42 years, and shuts its gates forever later this month. Shreveport may be faltering. Memphis seems to be on the skids.

Having said all that, Texas Timing Association will introduce Texas Nostalgia Thunder next year -- a two-day race over the weekend of May 5th at San Antonio Raceway. We are planning to accommodate those who would like to race for money at that event by holding a $1,000 Bracket Shootout on Friday night, financed by the racers’ entry fees. You would be most welcome to try winning yourself a nice chunk of loot at that one.

I see that the gates open at 8am and the time trials start at noon. Will there be any grudge matches or racing prior to the noon time trails? (Like they do at the other events listed above)

Does the $20 car show fee include entrance to everything else?

    Answers to recent questions:

Because there is interest in it, yes, we will begin time trials at 11 AM and move the first round of the fuel cars back to 2 PM to give the traditional hot rodders plenty of time to run time trials or grudge matches before the fuel qualifying begins. There will be two more periods of time trials for the eliminator index cars during the afternoon.

Sorry, the $20 fee to enter your car in the car show does not also include the admission ccharge at the front gate. Only the higher vendor fee includes an admission. Once you're in the gate, though, you can see everything else for no additional charge.

Have final confirmation now of Fuel Funny Cars, Top Fuel Dragsters, and at least one Top Fuel Harley coming to the Texas State Championship, along with competitors for the new Flathead Eliminator coming from as far away as Virginia. We've got famed drag race writer/photographer Bob McClurg flying in from Hawaii for the race. Expect a great show, folks!

  23. Texas Smoker. Thanks for the response. I attended all the events you mentioned and we won't beat heads but you stand corrected on limited payouts at two of those races. Nuff said. Its all about management.
So whatever to make it happen works for me.
I race to be racing like most others do. Bragging rights , you bet. I'm in.,
I'll get more info on the other race whenever I see you at the track.
Are we able to stay at the track Friday night?
    Thanks, H Rat

H Rat, you will be able to stay at the track Friday night. However, the track will want $10 for Friday night at the gate, plus the $20 to be there on Saturday. You can even stay over Saturday night if you want, at no charge, but we'll be clearing everyone out by 10am Sunday morning.

  25. T Smoker; Thanks for the info.May stay both nights:D Sounds like just a bunch of fun to me. Thats why we get up in the morning.
    Later, H Rat

    Kenneth,

Please add the words (NO ELECTRONICS) after '72 and earlier in the Bracket Eliminator class. I have posted a new E-Flyer with it as well.

    Thanks, buddy,

Okey dokey, it seems that the TSC 2011 E-Flyer has been revised once again. it is available on the first page of this thread. Reason: Addition of NO ELECTRONICS to the Bracket Eliminator class, '72 and earlier.

Just checking cost, I know Friday night is not your deal.
    Run friday $20
    Camp friday $10
Run saturday $20 at the gate and $20 to race for index with bracket included free
Not sure if I have this correct.
