1931 Ford sport coupe / roadster build thread

great work so far... one thing though, and correct me if i'm missing something... you're using roadster doors and sport coupe quarters ending up with a body that is actually a couple inches shorter in length, negating the quest for extra legroom...

 

You've got my attention.... looking forward to more progress on your build.

I'm building a 29' coupe... started as a sport coupe, and I bastardized a 30' roof onto it, 32 frame, and a stroked buick 215.

Subscribed for sure, this is motivating me to get some work done! Looking great!

 

Here is a progress report. I have got the motor and tranny installed, the front and rear suspension is somewhat dialed in. Here are some photos:

 

I took some design cues from some of the HAMB brotherhood and put together a model T axle, '40 wishbones, and Lincoln front radius rods to work like this on the quick change:

 

Here are some engine photos from the build up. They did a great job on putting it together, as I ran the stock pistons with just a cylinder hone. The cam came from D&D and due to the lift girdles had to be used on rocker assembly. Three angle valve job and a balance - we are ready to roll.

 

The aluminum motor kind of hurt my feelings when I put it between the frame rails. It hardly even mashed the front spring down! Too Light!! I guess I will be taking out a few leafs.

Found a hood that somewhat works as the stock model A hoods are 4 inches too short. The hood was off a Packard (subject to verification from the HAMB) and didn't look all that close to working. The side panels really hit the mark, so I decided to go for it. I really liked how the side panels had a sort of dip to them in the rear that could be made to mimic the '32 rails.

Curt I am so excited to see this thing come together. I really need to stop by and see the progress. It's awesome!

 

I was a little skeptical at first when I read the plans with the body changes, but I have to admit that my concerns were proven wrong! This is a great looking build and an interesting choice of motivation. The little 215 makes the car look huge.

And here's a few I took last night as well. totally blown away by this car, it's perfection really. Stance and the 2" added really makes it for me....

 

This is a very nice build. The added 2 inches does a world of difference for the body.

Keeping my eye on this one.

 

Just another reason to make that trip to Crown Town TS!!! I think the 2" made a world of difference as well. Really was blown as away....and jealous. I want a roadster damn it!

 

I think that all of the Iron Lords should sell current projects and build roadsters! CROWN TOWN ROADSTERS! LOL!

Looking great Curt. Lke everyone else said the 2" reverse section did so much for that car.

I must say I think this will make one too many cool vehicles for you. I really think you should let me take the 34 off your hands.....or the Porsche.

 

We went over to Curts shop on Wednesday and checked it out...Jeffrey is right PERFECTION. It is an amazing little roadster. Again, KUDOS Curt you won big!!!
