I don't disagree with how "The Renegade"turned out.The finished product is gorgeous. But,I have to disagree with the way the car was done.In my honest opinion, the car should have stayed green with the scallops. If you are going to restore an old custom, then restore it they it was originally done.I think most guys would feel the same way.
Eh Im just happy to see the car out and really nice looking. I'm proud of how well Bob redid it, in his usual standards of SUPER straight. Think of it this way, a LOT of customs back in the day were redone to stages where they were almost unidentifiable as their former selves. This just has a different hue and rear bumper. I of course would rather see it green myself, but Id rather see it at Lead East garnering attention than sitting in an airplane hanger in Central Jersey barely able to move under its own power.
Here's mine. Still in the project stage. Has '90 Lincoln MkVII 5.0 HO engine with AOD, dropped spindles, disc brakes and a 3.54 '58 Ford 9-inch rear end. Will be getting lower soon, with wide whites, minor trim removal and ivory tuck and roll. Paint will be patina...the way it is in the photo...with red oxide primer spots. Why? 'Cause I cain't make up my mind what color will look best, and I'm kinda fond of the factory black-over-red it is right now. Lots of prissy pastels on the street in the mid- to late-50's, butcha' had to watch out for the red 'n' black ones. Most of them could run! We'll see... EDIT: It's now got 3" blocks in the rear and Ford Aerostar coils in front, in addition to the Fatman dropped spindles previously installed. Looks better, don't you think?
Here're some shots of my 53. I've been thinking for awhile about changing something about the front end and this thread has given me a lot to chew on. There are a few changes I don't have photos of oddly enough, the headlights are visored now and she's got some 3" wide whites. I think she's gonna be Mohawk Maroon real soon.
Way better. Fix the hood scoop, though -- either french it or put the stock trim back on; don't leave it as a naked bump.
Some sweet lookin' Mercs! My favorite Merc is a '54. Kinda strange how my tastes have changed over the years. Consider me subscribed!
Hey Mohawk, I saw yours years ago as I was passing through Monroe. It was sitting there at a diner. That is/was the only other 52/53 Merc I have seen in person. Where are they all at? Don't these years of Mercs have any love or did they not make many of them? A couple years back I was at a local swapmeet and a guy had a 53 convert for sale. Wish I'd had the money. It was a project, but when was the last time you seen a real convert and not a carson top.
