Event Coverage Anything Happening near Monterey CA area?

My Wife and I are out on the west coast touring around Monterey (Oct. 8th-14th). We are planning on traveling old RT1 south. Im looking for something cool that us HAMBers would want to check out. Any Suggestions?

Dude you got to go drive around fort ord. Most of it is fenced off now but it was a million person military city that was abandoned so there might be some spots to take photos. Sometimes you can drive out to laguna seca.

 

Taking 1 south how far? Great choice of a drive, by the way. One of the top two or three in the world. There are some HAMBers shops just south of San Simeon along the coast.

 

Take the "17 Mile Drive" by Carmel....after you're done, you'll feel very, very, poor

 

We planned a to visit Hearst Castle.

 

Reservations can be very helpful, if you catch it on a busy day.

Perfect timing on this thread.I will be up in Cuyucos(north of Morro Bay).So I will try to get to the get together for Powell.will be doing the Hearst castle deal on Saturday,2pm reservation,got to do it.

I lived on Ft. Ord while I was stationed at the Presidio of Monterey. There were some old barracks and warehouses still standing while I was there but that was in the 90's. If you are looking for a great drive, the 1 through Big Sur is spot on. I've also heard Old Coast Rd was good too. 17 Mile Drive through Carmel\Pacific Grove is pretty, but Mazooma is right. Whatever you decide, enjoy your trip!

 

Only now they charge you $9.50 to go on the 17 mile drive FTS..........
