The Iddings car looks amazing! Great work.

We will be talking about Kyle Larson and Eldora for quite a while. So who is going to buy the Hoffman sprinter at the end of the season and store it away. 30 years from now we will all be searching for "that car that Kyle Larson won the 4 crown in"

 

Does anyone have any pictures of the roadster Gary Schlafer drove in the Little 500. And better yet know the where abouts of the car. Thanks Curt

 

John Godfrey of Spike Chassis has the frame of the midget that Hewitt drove when he won all four of the Eldora races some years back.

Here's a couple. I did not take or scan these...I'm pretty sure I saved them from a post over at Indiana Open Wheel.

 

The roadster I'm thinking of is a dowker formerly owned by Malcolm Lovelace. The number Gary ran with it was 8. He ran it in the Little 500. Curt

From Dayton Speedway Site http://wthompson4.sports.officelive.com/images/shackleford clipping 1.jpg A week after his 7th place finish at Indy driver Lee Wallard took the weekend off and dirt track specialist Johnny Shackleford took over driving the 91 at Milw-finished 7th in the AAA Sanctioned National Championship 100 miler.ironically it may have been this #91 Iddings car and Lee Wallard that bumped Shackleford from the previous week's 500 field (Shackleford did however relieve Joie Chitwood in the old Shaw Offy and finished 17th)The next weekend June 14th at Dayton Speedway for a non Championship AAA sanctioned event Shackleford in the same Iddings car smashed through the retaining wall and over the 40' embankment to his death.

I do have one of the nose pieces off there dirt sprinter that won the usac championship in 2008. Its a start.

 

I, was not part of Pogolazinski Out House , I , started building long be for Him, built a Kurtis copy in the early 60s , and a roadster in mid 60s drivin by Chuck Biglow the # 20 all aluminum body and I am , still building cars , got a new 60s style midget roadster on the table right now !

 

Thank you for your help as I did get in contact with Bob Pratt (what a great gentleman and very humble driver) we had a great conversation about the car I restored and also the Vivian Buick that was owned by Dale Doty. Bob asked me if I had any info regarding Dale as he lost contact with him over ten years ago. If anyone has any info regarding Dale Doty can you please PM me and I will pass it on to Bob.

 

Is the Iddings car a resto or a replica?

 

From what I know a replica, since the original is long gone.

Bob emailed me and reaffirmed that he built it as a Tribute Car to Henry Meyer, the master builder and engineer.
And of course it will be displayed and run as such.

From Bob Moore: "The Hal was destroyed on the 4th of July, 1951 at Winchester when Rigsby T-Boned Jackie Holmes."

Bob Moore, the son of the man who helped Meyer build the #91 stretched sprinter provided the missing historical details.

'mlight' also provided some info on Mark Light who tried unsuccesfully to qualify the car at Indy in 1950.

Bob Moore-"Johnny McDowell's 1949 #32 Is a rebuild of the #91 that was wrecked in the Johnny Shackleford fatal wreck at Dayton inJune of 1948?Appears to be new bodywork and old frame and stats list same offy. Also found car listed as #52 Meyer-Iddings Offy ftq Indy 1950 with Mark Light. 1951 lists car as #33 Iddings Spl ftq with Jimmy Daywalt driving-Fox stats show 'wrecked during practice'. There is another iddings Spl listed for 1952 for Jud Larson but appears to be a completely different car.From Bob Moore"The Iddings that Wallard drove at Indy in '48 was indeed the Iddings Hal that Henry, his brother Bob and Dad build in Henry's basement on Shakespear Ave. in Dayton over the winter of '37'-38, they also built a 3/4 car and a 80cid H-D powered midget that winter. The Hal was destroyed on the 4th of July, 1951 at Winchester when Rigsby T-Boned Jackie Holmes. The all volunteer crew built a new Iddings sprinter by Labor Day that year and had it at Winchester with Harry King in the cockpit, this is the car that Bob Sweikert set a new Worlds record in at Winchester on the TV's ABC Wide World of Sports telecast, it was destroyed at Ft. Wayne in 1954 when Elisian and Jerry Hoyt got to arguing over a piece of race track"

 

I thought so. The rail looks thinner, the hand brake is in the wrong location, and the the flange for the rear radius rod is smaller. My next question is: Is it going to be obvious that this is a replica when it is displayed?

We are quite thrilled that we have another creation to see on the track that wouldn't exist without Bob's efforts.

Took the roadster out and ran it the first time two weeks ago at Madera.

 

Steve. I have watched your progress with this car on this site and you have done a nice job with it. I want to see it in person someday. Nice looking roadster. How often do you guys go to Madera or other paved tracks in the area? I might want to come down and run with you some day. Lonnie Gotschall

 

I'd love to see more of that #24 orange sprinter of yours.
