well guess what now you have...It means (now write this down..it looses its context if i have to keep repeating it)
A group (more than 2) rebels..running out of an otherwise calm, quiet situation(stock engine)..causing a rukus (general disturbance) jumping in a jalopy(pre war vehicle) reving up a loud V8 engine (open exhaust preferred) burning rubber/squeeling tires (engine now more powerful than stock) as they hastley exit..and sometimes the sound of gunfire (mistaken engine back fire) can often be reported..

Lets call it that from now on...
the rest of you can now Get over it!!!

First off, good for you on the engine mods, and thanks for posting. I love seeing the progress others make either building or rebuilding traditional hot rods. Second, I don't give two shits about the term Gangster or Kustom, or any other word misspelled with a Z, I just ignore them.

That said, what rubbed me the wrong way is how you described the car you bought off the Hamb in your first post. No offense man, but it seems a bit disrespectful to call someone else's build a "boring and tame lil girl". I think you had a great platform to start with. Someone worked hard to get it to that point.

Nice work on the motor. Hopefully this thread will calm down a bit and we can get back to documenting hot rod builds.

ThankYou. the most intellegent explaination ive heard yet...if you had only posted this earlier..i would have a much better understanding of the deragatoryness of the word..
it might have saved us all this crybaby drama..
to show im a good sport..ill refrain from using this word..(however there is a part of me that would like to spin this positively..maybe reclaim the term)..but i get it now...its bigger than that..your talking the colored hankerchief stuff...a real problem in the real world
Yes..I dont live near that world..What you have said makes more sense to me than any other..
    thanks Mr48Chev..
    ill stand corrected..

who gives a shit what he calls it. Raising hell in a model a on the street at 2 am sounds like good fun to me.

  12. Now I see the problem - you just make up your own definition of a word and expect everyone to know it.
THIS is the definitoin of the word ~ not some "made up to fit the way I want to use it" definition.

    gang·ster <SCRIPT>play_w2("G0036700")</SCRIPT>(g[IMG]ng[IMG]st[IMG]r)
    n. 1. A member of an organized group of criminals; a racketeer.
    2. A member of a gang of delinquents.

ALT. A wannabe thug, often illiterate and an inhabitant of a downtrodden ghetto that hangs around in "gangs"; largely associated with the African-American subculture. These try-hard wanna be "gangstas" attempt to make themselves appear like criminals

agreed... a silly term, but obviously in fun- something a lot of people forget how to have... it's not sooo serious. remember, the HAMB considers all of you hoodlums.:p

i like the thread and don't cares what you call what you did. I would love to get that much work done on my car in a week. It's going to take me about a year to get the same amount of work done on my car.

the car is badass. good job.

No but we have plenty of little and not so little "gangsters" here locally will shoot someone with the wrong color on on site.

When I was teaching auto shop the Hispanic kids in the class called it "gangstering" a car when they put chrome spoke wheels and wide whites on it. That is where I got that bit.

No matter what he calls it taking what appears to be a mundane small block from boring to honking little hotrod engine in a weeks time is a serious effort no matter who does it. Just getting the parts to the machine shop and back finished and ready to install takes a lot longer than that in a lot of areas, let alone put the engine together, put it in and run it down the street.

  17. Get over what? It was obviously a poor choice of terms when used in a huge public forum where obviously most of the people on here would not consider it to be a good use of the word and that it did not convey the image or message that the OP was trying to accomplish.

And you don't "Gangster" or "Hoodlum" a car, you HOT ROD it. A Gangster or a Hoodlum is a descriptive narrative of a person, not what you do to something.

obviously it's not a proper use of the word... i have a degree in english lit, and although i find it a silly term, i knew what he was implying, and i certainly can't see being offended by it... many others took issue with the mere gangster connotation, which i find even more amusing... but whatever, this should be shut down soon enough anyway...

Looked like a decent thrash you guys pulled off.

I like it that you replaced a single carb with a GANG of three.

i dont see a need to shut it down..It actually has brought to light a significant issue with dialect. Terms used every day on this site..Some stuff is real nonsense.
others maybe not so much..Its a learning experience for everyone..No reason to cut that off..
I am always learning...this post has taught me something..I have no problem admitting this or sharing it..
for those of you who's comments where productive, thanks...
Im still trying to load video's of it at highway speeds..I had a good time with it.

I could care less if this guy thinks he's a "gangsta". Most idoits do anyhow. It's the way they treat our flag that gets me upset. You're 42 years old and you've never heard how to (and how NOT to) treat the flag?

The flag was wrapped up in a box in the trunk..it got wet...
We unfolded it and drapped it over the roof to dry..there was no other clean place to put it safetly..with both front and rear doors open..the wind would blow..I didnt want it to blow off and touch the floor so i took a clean box..put the old cam in it for weight..and set it on the flag to keep it from blowing off..
It was a Cheap "Made in china" see through material . the escousions where torn through.. My brother keeps his sail boat at the VFW , One block away..so we gave it to them for disposal..they have a once a yr ceremony for disposing flags...
I respect the American flag..I understand your concern..thanks..its been taken care of..
