Wow. what a great trip down memory lane. My late father Al Jewell (Bert to some) ran a B open gas dragster with his partners at Fremont in the 50s and 60s. He had a Black 1960 Chevy push truck, which he wrecked on the old San Mateo Bridge in 1967, and replaced it with a Black 1966 Chevy p/u. I am looking for any pics of his rail and or truck/partners. All pics and history were lost in a Laundry room flood. I don't know the name of his partners. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. I also saw a video a few years ago about that time period at Fremont, anyone know what the name of the video is? Mike

Thanks for all the memories of some of the greatest times in drag racing history ! I was never Lucky enough to make it cross country to see the great drag tracks of the 1960 so I am always very happy to see some pictures of them .
Thanks again for the ride !

  18. Those are some great pictures, thanks for sharing...;)

We didn't move to CA until 1970 but I remember Fremont then later Baylands raceway well,I remember seeing Gary Beck run a 5.39 there in 1983 when the national record was a 5.51 so gary just skipped right on by the .40's,lol.
It was just a great track right at sea level with good air.

Just got back from Henderson NC and the east coast drag times event and the entire Ramchargers team was there getting inducted along with leader Tom Hoover,I got them all to sign my Ramchargers book.

Great pics, and while I hate to hijack, I'm hoping some of the Fremont regulars who were there during this time period can help ID a car for me. This Bantam coupe body (steel) was supposedly run a Fremont about the same as the pics posted ( '64-ish) and was on a dragster chassis. It now belongs to a friend of a friend who would love to know something about it, and would be thrilled to see a pic of it back then. Thanks in advance

If you run across a picture of a white '64 Galaxie Stocker, #673, "LAFAYETTE FORD" on the quarters, it's a buddy of mine, and he'd get a kick out of it- it's a one-of-50 factory lightweight High Riser Galaxie- not a Thunderbolt, a Galaxie, and was probably around at those meets, about the time he got out of the service. He was the NHRA record holder for a while, later got sponsored into a '67 427 Fairlane and sold the '64, then later ran a SOHC Maverick. Retired and moved to Arizona, then tracked down his old Gal and bought it back, ran it at Bakersfield a couple years ago, just went through the High Riser engine again and recently moved back to the Bay Area and is itching to row some gears again at Sears Point and Sacramento

cant believe I missed this thread! Yes I do remember that...I also remember in that same time frame a couple of blowers exploding (may have been during a Nationals?) and my uncle Mike telling me not to run over and pick up the shrapnel..."it's hot, dont touch it!" I spent alot of weekends at Fremont with my uncle Mike Ireton when I was a kid. (and San Jose Speedway with the hardtops too!)
