It's late and I'm beat, I just picked up a 1950 chevy truck seller said it was a shortbed and its. Missing the rear fenders so its kind of hard to tell. Can someone give me some deminsions. I'm starting to think I got shamed.

    Thanks
    Jimmy

1/2 ton bed is something around 6' (or was it 6-1/2'?), 3/4 ton about 8' and 1 ton is about 9'.

To add, the 1/2 has an A-shaped frame (when looked from above) and a torque tube, whereas heavier trucks have more like a ladder shaped frame and open drive. Also the 3/4t and heavier trucks have wider track width in rear than in front.

Measure the length of the bed. If it's anything longer than 6.5 feet, it's a long bed. Simple is as simple does. :)

The fenders should be the same regardless of bed length. Go for it!

heres some pics of the truck

Is the frame suppose to look like this in the back? the running boards and everything in the front half looks right but this almost looks like a frame swap.

The bed measures about 6'8'' and the wheel base is 125. I'm thinking it might be a 3600? I'm almost positive it has a 1953 or 54 235 in it but I will have to knock some dust off for the numbers. I couldnt find the vin number. where is it on these trucks it has a blue california vin plate which also lets me know that it was once registered by the motor and someone switched it out.

That appears to be a short bed off a later Second Series (or later) truck. Doesn't appear to be an AD bed.

Like VoodooTwin mentioned, looks to be a short bed off a later truck. Also looks like a 3/4 or 1 ton chassis, 8 lug wheels and frame hanging out the back. The running boards and filler panels almost look like they belong to a long bed originally.

  15. 3100 wheelbase is 116"

  16. If it has a Calif assigned blue VIN tag it's probably an assembled truck

It's definitely a shortbed that was put on the back, what needs to be done for the shortbed to fit on the longer frame? Can the frame be shortened like other longed frames by cutting out X amount of the frame and welding it back together and shortening the drive shaft?

Doesn't apear to be an AD bed. The top rails on an AD are angled, the ones in the picture are flat, looks like a later bed.

Chevy's and GMC's went to the flat top rails in '54, I shoulda said it doesn't appear to be a 1950 AD bed.

Side note: GMC's were not called Advance Design, they were New Design.

Wow so I got screwed kinda guy told me three different times it was a longbed just looked funny because the bumper was missing, I did get a decent price on the truck. Paid 1700 and it came with a title and there's no rust holes and no rust in the cab only a little surface rust and a its got a 235. I got the truck for my cousin and he wanted a shortbed so now comes my next questions. Can the frame be shortened to 116 wheel base like I have seen done to other longbeds? Could the 54 bed ever fit right on the 3600 frame after its shortened and will other year(49-53 )rear fenders fit onto the bed?

    Thanks everyone

The bed is a 55-59 long bed that has been shortened.

Now that you say that I'm looking at the bed and it does look like the rust circle where the fenders were are the shape of a 55. I noticed repop rear fenders fit 49-55 will a 1950 rear fender fit on this bed? I was just about to go pick some up down the road but now I'm on hold until I figure this out. damn this deal is getting crappy fast

I wouldn't say that you got screwed at that price. Lots to work with there, and you can certainly shorten up that frame and have some fun with it. You can always trade/sell that bed to get the proper bed for that style truck.
