The Tin Butchers are planning a Fall cruize on Sunday Oct. 16th. We would like to invite anyone (preferably with old cars but not neccessary) to join us. We are planning on meeting at the Culvers restuarant in Belvidere, Illinois, (just north of Bob Wolf Chevrolet)....on business rt. 20. .We will be leaving Culvers at 12:30 sharp...(if you want to eat first, be sure to arrive ahead of that time)...from there we will cruize to the McHenry County Fairgrounds in Woodstock, Illinois. The fairgrounds will be the Oct. 2012 site of the new Iron Invasion show put on by John Wells of Torquefest fame. Since our club will be running the swapmeet there; we wanted to check out the grounds as it's been awhile since a lot of us have been there. The fairgrounds mite or mite not be "open" but we will still be able to drive by and check it out. (edit: looks like it'll be open) Following that we will do a drive thru the countryside and wind our way back towards Belvidere/ Rockford. ..you are welcome to join in or fall out anywhere along the route.
Sam - I am gonna try to get Lois to meet ya'll out there and open up the gates so everyone can check the place out. I suspect everyone will love it. People that know the location already commented that it has "the vibe" Fully grown trees........ nice big outdoor pavillion for the bands...... 5 indoor building for vendors and retro reel cinema building.... and a genuine auto parts swap meet - NOT a flea market.........run by the Tin Butchers - it is gonna be a blast. So if anyone wants to do something on the weekend after the Pile Up - why not hook up with the Tin Butchers and cruise for a while? I wont be able to be there cause I gotta try to make $$$ at the Cedar Rapids swap meet
...thanks John, it'd be neat to get to walk around on the grounds and get a feel for things. Who is Lois?...fairgrounds caretaker? ..thanks for the map/layout of the grounds too.
I'd love to go but the half cool thing I'd have to go needs rod bearings and a header gasket to go very far. One of these days I tell ya one of these days.
John Wells and I had a nice visit today at the Jefferson Swapmeet; there will be a dog show going on at the McHenry County fairgrounds on the 16th of Oct (the day of our cruize), so we will be able to get onto the grounds and check it out. John gave me a map of the layout he plans to use, I'll have copies for anyone interested. We hope to leave the Belvidere Culvers restuarant by 12:30, so if you want to eat there first, arrive ahead of time so we can leave on time. By mid-October it gets dark earlier, so we want to be done with our whole trip by around 4:30-5:00 pm.
Anyone that wants to just meet at the fairgrounds - perhaps you could get in touch with Sam and meet there..... I suspect they will be at the fairgrounds around 130pm
not sure if Tin Butchers will be at the Pile Up.....but if some are perhaps people could talk to them about it there?
Yup, if anyone wants to meet up at the fairgrounds, you're welcome to do so. We should be there around 1:30. If you need info, just give me a call... cell: 815-973-9304 ...hopin for good weather!
...talked with quite a few guys this weekend who mite be joining or meeting up with us on our cruz. Spread the word, thanks.
It's just off of N. State St. and Rt. 20 in Belvidere. Not too far from Boone County Fairgrounds.....Home of The ScrapDrive. Here's a link to Google maps. http://maps.google.com/maps?rlz=1T4...Dw&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&ved=0CAQQ_BI
btt for anyone who mite have missed this. We may have a good group of cars joining in on this. The fairgrounds will be featuring a dog show on Sunday; so we should be able to get in to look around as long as we don't bother the bowsers.
bother the bowsers - I like that!!! ha wish I could be there......... but you have the map from the site so you can kinda let others now what the set up will be. I look forward to hearing from the Tin Butchers and others about the location.
the Good Lord and weather permitting, I plan to make the drive to support my pal Coolstuff and a great club of hotrodders.
so....bobwop - you gonna go o the cruise - or are you gonna come over to Cedar Rapids and sell some stuff? or BOTH? I was trying to figure out a way for me to be at both - but dont think I can make it.
weather cooperated until I got within a couple miles of Hopperstad's shop. It was just enough to slop up the car. Oh well, it only takes an hour to clean up those Radir tri-ribs. good turnout for a nice drive. Lots of cool rides and great folks. we had a chance to check out the venue. I plan to report to the Master of Cool Stuff later today. thanks Tin Butchers for a nice time.
Did anybody get pictures this year. A sneak peak of the venue like you did last year at the fairgrounds for Torquefest.
