I hate that I have to preface my threads, but whiny babies with hard-ons against Goodguys should change the channel now. For those who like looking at bitchin hot rods being driven hard and raced.......read on.

This past weekend marked the sixth year for the Goodguys Hot Rod of the Year competition. I wanted to see hot rods driven, not just shown. It has always been intended as open to all levels of hot rod and still is. This year the participants ran the full spectrum from homebuilt to high-end and everything in between. I love seeing all of them on the road!

Did I mention that I rode in a rumble seat for the whole day? It was KILLER!

Since this thing is my baby I was stoked to hear all of the comments about how it is peoples' absolute favorite day of hot rodding. One participant called it the "Ridler for drivers." I thought that was cool.

There is no pretension, no attitudes, just hot rodders of all facets hanging out together having fun. For me it's a real bright spot on the hot rod scene because I am so fucking over the pretentiousness of both sides of the fence. Speaking up for the traditional hot rodder used to be my mission, but I can't speak for pretentious dicks regardless of what kind of car they like. It is so nice to just hang out with guys who like cars, that's who I represent.

Anyway, the day started off at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum, headed for A Summer Place for lunch, over to Muncie Dragway for the 1/8th-mile runs and then back to IMS. About a 200 mile day with racing in the middle. WAY COOL!

Not one rodder babied their ride on the strip or on the highway. In fact, we had three cars break from having the loud pedal smashed without fear. Burnouts, near spinouts and some serious E.T.s made for a fun checkpoint.

Then everyone was given a spot in a special parking area right next to the Gasoline Alley sign for Saturday's judging. There were so many killer cars this year that it was a serious struggle to whittle my list down to ten, let alone the required five. The rest of the judges were in the same boat. After MUCH debate the five finalists were chosen and the winner was announced on Sunday at the awards ceremony.

CHALLENGE: I hear so many whiners say that Goodguys doesn't do this or does that. Most all of you like to drive, race and look good. The Hot Rod of the Year competition is EXACTLY what you guys say Goodguys doesn't do. Want to prove how bad ass and cool you are? Well, put up or shut up and be in Indy next year with your ride.

That would have been tough to just choose the final 5. My vote goes to the P&J 32 sedan, Wheels up!!!!!!!!!!

I owned this car for a little while back in the early 90's. It had a DZ302 with a M22 at the time as was fast as hell. I have some time slips somewhere from BIR. A few years later I sold it back the original builder. I think his brother may own it now, and it has a big inch small block. Anybody know what it ran??
