The comp dragster class was so cool. Too bad, the NHRA felled it after 1970.

I wonder if the Thames was the Norlock and Worthy Lil Hearse? Not a lot of black A/Gas Thames at the time. Great shots of an obscure track. Obvioulsy, the area had a healthy car count consisting of quality machines.

Snodgrass and Mahnken-My old neighbors when I lived in Azusa. Tom Mahnken was the neighbor actually. He worked at Tom Sherlock Ford in South Pasadena. The car was sold to an Aussie in 1969, sans the 427 Ford. Maiden voyage with 392 hemi served as the cars last as the chute failed. The car was previously a Fiat bodied AA/FA.

In 1969, there was a car very much like this that showed up at Irwindale. It was featured in a pearl white and green cob webbed style motif and was dubbed Fascination. The chute was enclosed in a secret trap door. I wonder if it was the same car. That is a rare body style.

WCD, do you know if Paul Grichar had anything to do with the engine build?? I see Grant Piston & Ring service sponsored the car.

I'd sure like to see more pictures of Cherokee if you've got them! I spent a lot of time there as a youngster.

Jim Stevens, pretty sure this was at the World Finals in Amarillo.

    The photos, or the cars?

The cars are on the left, the Surfers - Skinner, Jobe and Sorokin - with Mike Sorokin at the wheel, and on the right, Leland Kolb.

Stevens was there. Unfortunately he later replaced the car with a Maverick for the now defunct super modified class.

Rex Marshall lives here in Bountiful, Utah. He is a master when it comes to Corvettes and fiberglass. Some of you know his Orange "Vicious Vette" gasser from the HAMB calendar this year. Him and his wife have been racing out at Bonneville Raceway (where most of your pictures you posted were taken) since its earlier years. He currently races a tribute car of the "Chevy-a-go-go" (the yellow 56 Chev in other pics you posted). He is also the man to go to if you have questions about cars and racers from the Salt Lake area.

This one was labeled "Sonnys grandmas thing" - not really sure I want to see Sonny's Grandma's thing...

The altered shown was raced by Sonny Schenfield, and it is called "Grandma's Thing". My Dad has owned it since before I was born. I used to climb in it and pretend I was racing when I was a Kid. It's still upstairs in the garage...
