    Dave

The road to Stewart, B.C. to Hyder, Alaska has been closed as several washouts have wiped out roads and bridges. 100's of tourists are trapped. They are barging in gas and groceries.
This happened thursday and there is no time line for repairs.....days/week/more?
They are barging in equipment from the Stewart side and equipment from the Hwy 37 side..........
More info: Google: BC Highway Road Closures

Plan "B" , drive straight thru to Prince Rupert, B.C. then take the ferry to Ketchikan, Alaska.
Drivetime to Rupert would be shorter than to Hyder/Stewart, but ferry time is six hours each way.

To HAMB members, Dave uses Hyder as his Alaska "touch base" as it is very handy and saves another 2-3 days, or more driving....

Hey I am ok with that. Its a very smooth ride up here on the cowl. This is also my second lap on this adventure as my paying job is plastered on the hood as a sponsor.

Go Dave Go! I think that he's just pulled up for the night in Jefferson City MO or near there. He is running from midnight to 7PM each day and sleeping for 5 hours. What a machine.

Check out the live tracking and please consider putting a little money in the hat. If we all do a little, then nobody has to do a lot.

    Live tracking: http://49in7.com/the-trip/live-tracking

    Donations: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/49in7/ronald-mcdonald-house-at-stanford

If everyone here were to toss in $5, that would put $780k in the till. If one out of 7 members here throws a sawbuck in, that will put $100k in JUST FROM HAMBers.

Think about it. Just a little more than the cost of a gallon of fuel to help save a kid's life? Those with short arm disease (arms can't reach pockets) we understand - we've seen you guys before every time the bar tab needs to be paid.[IMG]

Still no time line on repairing bridges and roads to Stewart, BC and Hyder, Alaska. They are now barging out tourists vehicles to Prince Rupert, BC.

Ouch! This is a troubling new piece of information. Hard to drive on water unless Dave is going REALLY fast or he has one of these:

  19. Keith (@pg409) PM'd me to alert me of some promising news from the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure website (DriveBC.ca):

    Hwy 37A Closed @ Hwy 37 Meziadin Junction.JPG
Hwy 37A (only road to Stewart & Hyder) Closed in Both Directions.JPG
Highway 37A: Closed in both directions from Stewart to Meziadin Junction with Highway 37 (61.5 km) due to the washouts and damage to the Bitter Creek Bridge. Estimated time of temporary openings is Friday, September 16. Moderate Confidence. No detour available.

I called Dave (driving on some "back-road" in Colorado) to give him the "good news" about the possiblity of Hwy 37A being open on Friday ... although it was difficult to hear him (darn bluetooth hands-free devices), the news seemed to lift his spirits a bit ... let's cross our fingers that the MoT&I crews get the road passable before he arrives at the 37/37A (Meziadin Lake) junction on the 16th.

We talked for quite awhile longer ... when I mentioned the roadster's non-operational speedometer (& cruise control), Dave quickly replied he had no time to fix it while on the road ... it was quite obvious he was focused on the "task at hand": Arriving in Flagstaff, AZ ... tonight!

    Go, Dave. Go!

west 8 hours driving time and then get in a lineup to drive thru the flooded temporary repaired area with pilot vehicles. Whew !!!!!!

  29. 4:19 am and he's approx 2 hours out from passing me. I hope he doesn't get hung up too much on Snoqualmie Pass with the construction. I think the biggest probs are EAST bound. Looks like he spent the night in Tri Cities and isn't tracking yet. GO DAVE !

  30. It's 4:50 am here now and he's still not tracking from Tri Cities. Unless it broke, I don't see him pulling it off. Mapquest shows 1175 miles and almost 24 hrs. But what does mapquest know. Either way, gonna be brutal !!

    Update : 5:30 am. He's on the move ............. GO DAVE !!
