    Tom,
I don't remember Ben ever having the Div 4# of 4009, seems to me his # was 414. I don't remember why some had a 4 digit # back in those days. My div. numbers were always 3 digits. 408 and also 417 comp.. I was thinking maybe the 4 digit numbers were when they changed to pro comp but there again mine stayed 3 digits. I'm thinking maybe Willard Buff may have had the 4009 besides his other number. Could have been that there were more than 98 cars in that era because the numers started at 401and went to 499. I'm perplexed, if anyone knows please chime in.
I know there were people that wanted a certain # and they would check to see if that number had lapsed. I know this happened to a friend that had the # 469 and he lost the # and had to take 449 as a replacement. I know when I let my number lapse I was called by the guy that wanted the number and asked if I was going to renew and I told him no. I always thought that was very courteous of the guy. He also asked if I wanted to drive his car, but I declined his invitation.
I would say the time frame in those pix would be 1970 to 73 or even 74.

I did get to see "Fantasia" run, high gear only fuel Chrysler, went straight but wouldn't ET until Chuck Finders offered to make it work, for free if it didn't handle...so it got a fully-sprung Finders chassiss and a B&M hydro, and then it reached the 8 sec ET and, I think, won a fuel altered meet.

I think this is one of if not the most beautiful comp coupe of all time.
    It just reeks of badass.

They may have been in SR in the 70's, I don't remember that at all, but they were also in R&C about 1967. I wore that magazine out dreaming of having a car like that. Still have the mag.

Russ Hess' "Mind BInder" Willys. Built for the street, decked out like a true gas class warrior. With a Blown Olds, it really could have been. The painter bungled the instructions and painted it as the Mind Binder, not the Mind Bender as it was originally supposed to be.

Hess and Randy Dubb were pals back in the 1960's, and they appeared in a 1967 issue of R & C. Dubb's bright yellow '42 Willys was restored by CSR, in a similar form to its gasser configuration (now blown.) Sadly, Hess' build ended up a Pro-Streeter. Bummer. (It also was on a R&C cover in the early 1990's)

And judging by the push car, this was taken either somewhere in Europe or Hollywood.
Could have been OCIR perhaps, but certainly not Ringgold Ga : )

When Gene Snow came to Nashville with the Cavalcade show in 69', a dozen or so of us were asked to run out and push him back past the starting line following his burnout.
Even though reversing by hand was standard practice for us and everybody else who had no reverser, that occurrence caused us to finish the next decade talking and arguing about building a high gear car, and never actually doing it. But it always made for good argument after the races and for some reason, the Fantasia car always came up in the middle of it.

You might be right. I was thinking it was because of a long throw on the chute cable. Yankin' on the ring!

These two shots were seen previously in the thread, but they sure look cool side by side. A rare rag top race car seen parked and also at speed.

Check out that convertible top at the big end!!!
