Heard a zillion stories about Div 4 and AHRA also, but I've never seen these photos before. My sincere thanks for taking time to scan and post them.
Around what year(s) would these (A/F car 28902) have been taken ?

The dates on these photos are between 1955-1964, a few hodgepodge past that of course, with a majority around 59-63. And youre all very welcome.

A classic Garlits style car. This had to be around 66'. The writing says Carroll Bros. Are these the same guys that became Carroll Bros & Reed ?

That is all the drag cars from the '70 Indy Nationals I have. The rest are street rods and customs.

this thread would be a lot more enjoyable, and about 200 pages shorter.

    Hey "Mrtc4w"

I applaud your taste in cars. A nice balance of gassers, altereds, and rails.

In my excitement, I failed to write which photos I was wondering about. After realizing it, I went back and added it was post # 28902.
I am wondering if that is Ben Griffin's A/F car (#4009) with the late model Chrysler in . Was this around 70' or 71'?
    Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks! I can't imagine how many pictures I would have taken if I had a digital camera and didn't have to worry about processing cost!

My favorite car of all time, Pete Millar's Chicken Coupe. 'Ol Pete was a very interesting man and I miss him, GOD rest his soul.

Millar stepped outside the box in building a car. This coupe here had a blown 289 on fuel.. It ran in Sweden once. On the return sail it was accidently dumped in the port. It was retrieved quickly, but was destroyed by the sea water. Before the coupe, Millar was seen behind the wheel of a cool flat head rail. The chassis was a former Roger Wolford creation.

Start a seperate thread devoted to these cars. Many here on the site have an electic taste and appreciate all forms of mechanized motor sport. Any BRE Datsuns?

How about Pete Millars Fuel Altered Willys? Kinda different for the time.

It wasn't my favorite car of all time, but it was WAAAYYY up there on the list! Didn't he run another engine besides the 289?

BTW - where did you find that picture?

Diddn't he have another car, the Willys Gasser "Gang Green"(?)?

Millars daughter used to be on the H.A.M.B., I don't know if she still is. I asked her a long time ago if she still had the video he was selling in Drag Cartoons. I sure would love a copy!

Gangreen wasn't a Gasser, it was a center steer, Nitro burning, Fuel Altered. I think it sat lower than most for the time too.

I always wondered if this car later surfaced as the Brown & Dyer AA/GS from 1970 or so. It featured a lot of the same features and proportions, albeit classic style pyschedellic paint scheme.

I don't think (class legal) Gassers could ever run center steering, so it would probably have take a complete chassis to change Gangreen to legal Gasser.

Another Fuel Altered Willys was the Fantasia.

Also, the NHRA starter that dressed as an indian (OK, last edit-Bob Beazer) also had a centersteer Willys for a while. I remember seeing it in a video.

And you can't leave out the "Outlaw" gassers that ran in the midwest for a while. Some of them were center steer cars. Prock & Howell maybe??

Here in So-Cal they had their own AA/GS circuit that blatently violated the NHRA rule book. The Vettes of Lil John Lombardo and Mike Mitchell serving as the most extreme examples.

I recognize this one. This is Bill Hendersons Fantasia whatchmacallit with a Chrysler.
I never actually saw this car, but if memory serves me correctly from the Fred Clifford stories I've heard, this was a high gear car. No joke. Story is they scared hell out of the competition and spectators alike, not because it was super fast, but because it couldn't be held in a 30 acre field.

Anyone have any pics of the Div II Hunter & Hancock AA/FA owned and driven by Ronnie Hunter out of Nashville, Tn? A blue Bantam style Chrysler powered car that won Bakersfield in 68'....... again if memory is working properly.
He later teamed up with KS Pittman on an right coast match race funny car.
    I've looked internet everywhere.
