Well, finally am getting around to putting some photos up from El Mirage dry lakes yesterday.....day late and a dollar short.
Met some HAMBers out the J. Fishbeck, the guys from Lance-Speed, and "Heckle and Jeckles" and others. Had a nice visit with some guys from Japan, too.
I got out to El Mirage from home which is 88 miles from just east of Pasadena in 75 minutes and the weather was perfect.
Temperatures were in the low 70's when I got out there and stayed in the high 70's throughout the day.

Anyways, excuse this mess...these are all out of order. I was using two different cameras and was changing photocards and when I got home it was a shambles....so I didn't try to make any sense of any of this...

long shadows, about 7:45AM...this buggy has seen lots of time running flat-out from the looks of all those event decals....

HAMBer Tom Branch getting the "Immortals" liner ready...he's always really busy and I always interrupt him for a photo...super-busy guy. This guy's an exact clone of the racers from the 1950's...the real deal.

lots of cool stuff, how does that guy drive that missile on his back with his neck bent in half at over 200! And that surface looks far from smooth! I Like the streamlined A.

there was still some moisture visible along the cracks in the clay from the showers the day before. You normally don't see any reflection from the sun at all

wouldn't be El Mirage without a chat with Gene Winfield...at 84, he's never looked better. He has always been a true gentleman.
I swear, he's got to be one of the most kind-hearted people you'll ever meet.
The only thing most outstanding about this man than his history in motorsports and customs is the fact that he is first and foremost one nice and kind, soft-spoken man.
He was out yesterday with his "The Thing", flattie powered coupe.
This is a clone of the one he had over 50 years ago. He's had this one for about ten years. He also drives his 383" Roadster, too.
He wanted me to remind everyone about his big open house on October 15 & 16 at his shop in Mojave.

    Here's Gene greeting a little lady with a "high-five"...
