I've been searching too. I came across BMW "hellrot" which looks cool. Even if color sucks, it has good name. I'd look for pic, but have to get kids from daycare.

    Now I found it.

New Dodge Redline Pearl, has a hint of metallic in it but you can't see it until you get right up on it. Really pops in the sun.

Guess you could use Chinese red since everything we buy seems to come from China. :D

I saw one of those the other day too and that is worth checking out. When I saw it in front of me at the stop light I told my wife "Damn that is red" It really stands out in a field or red cars.

I'll have to disagree, My sedan is torch red and in the sun has a little bit of orange hue. It has a bit too much yellow in it IMO.

True that straight red will get you a pure red, but there are many, many tones of straight red pigment (hundreds). One reason paint makers add black, white, yellow, blue and other tones to the straight red pigment is because it allows them to color match batch to batch. Straight pigment of any color leaves a manufacturer at the mercy of the exact pigment strength and any contaminants that enter the paint during milling, etc.

The orange tinged reds will always draw the most attention as far as being retina burning, but they don't really fit the vintage feel of our old cars in my opinion. I still like them because I like bright, but you have to be careful how you pair that color with the upholstory and build style. Think Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette type colors here.

The bright red available next would be more "standard" red like you would see on pickup trucks (GM Victory Red), etc. These are bright but are definitely dulled down with other color pigments. A great color, but not exceptionally bright and not exceptionally deep.

There are some other factory colors that flirt with the above two categories, some a little less bright, some a little deeper or more intense. Especially Japanese new colors.

My favorites though for vintage cars are late model German reds used on luxury cars. Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagon and BMW all have great deep rich blood reds that really fit the older curves of our cars.

Mine is Mercedes 2002 Magma Red and I think it goes well with the bone colored tuck and roll upholstery. Yes, a brighter color would have impact, but the deep blood red just fits the car better in my opinion.

There was a recent thread on here about different REDS. Do a search, I think you'll get some great ideas in there.

Mazda has a color called "Vintage Red" it's on my T.

Mazda has something to do with Ford, or the other way around right? So it's really a Ford color? LOL

Mazda's do really have good colors compared to other manufactuers.

Guards is very orange. So is the Dodge truck red as well as Ford's poppy. The guys who have a red appearing guards must have used a tint in their primer to give it a better depth.

Since the main focus of the replies is to show off one's own car, here's MY choice of red, '06 Chevy truck color, on my Diamond T. It'll look better with all the chrome on...:p

I saw a new Mustang today that really looked great. Perhaps it is the same red seen on the Focus'ezess (focii?) mentioned above? Gary

Fire engine red can't remember who but the paint was Dupont. We shot a truck for a fire department that color in high school voc. class and it was really red!
