Good for you. Glad it worked out OK for you....and this is a great start to your new found "Illness" !! Cheers.....
Good advice, good job. It will get worse, and as time goes on you will find more things to take apart. WARNING, there is no cure. There, from this point forward, will be no spare money or time. A pad and pencil on the night stand will have barely discernable scribblings and drawings when you wake up. You will get no sympathy, just lots of help and encouragement. Welcome to Hot Rod Heavin.
Sorry for the shock mis-information, apparently all the shocks I work with on a regular basis extend to their maximum length when unbolted, may not be true for others...
Most of the wrenching skills I've accumulated in my lifetime have come from getting in there and making mistakes....so good for you man....keep at it.
I don't know where you got that info but no, non gas shocks do not extend by them selves. I've installed a few thousand of them over the years and always had to extend them before the gas ones came out.
Man, I'm Luvin it... Yeah, I was hooked before I tore into her but now it's even worse. Nothing like that sense of accomplishment and everybody breaking there necks to check out our ride as me and my girl cruze on bye in our ride. thanks for all the support and good advice... I'll post some pics later today... So far I've done: the fuel lines, fuel tank, fuel pump, carburetor, fuel filter, starter, solenoid, 216/235Engine swap (RoadWarrier13 did that), and this weekend the front drop 2" and the rear drop 3"... She's sittin; pretty. Just got to be careful on these N.O.L.A. streets LOL I'm already trying to see what I can tear into next Be back with the pics later, Larry
Here she is... Now, I just got to get her cleaned up and get a new pic with some better lighting and background for the profile shot.
I guess that analogy makes sense, since you had trouble getting the shaft through the hole, and had to pull it out further. When I took the rearend out of my '50, the lower shock mount bolts (part of the bottom U-bolt bar) twisted right off, so soak them and heat them a little before you crank on them. I just had a breaker bar and was on my back next to the car, I didn't have a ton of leverage on them.
Some better pics of her all cleaned up and showing off her new stance on life... De-arched and 3" blocks in the rear. Cut 2 coils in the front.
