Yep! That's the same car that's pushing Chrisman's Hustler-1 in my 4th pic?

Damn near exactly what I'm talking about.

This same car could have skinny whites and chrome reverse wheels as well as skinny blackwalls with American mags.

This one (of course it's Pat Ganahl, figures) hits it better than most for me. Killer car.

I thought this car had straight spoke wheels at one point...why change 'em? Whatever, I still love it.

JJ hit right on the head with that one! And Pat's is one of my favorites bar none. I wish I had a working scanner right now. There is a '50 business coupe in the upper picture on page 19 of the HRD that rings the bell for me. Black original paint rubbed through a bit, black steelies with stocker caps, bigs and littles, and a killer stance... Man, now I want an early fifties anything done up like my Plymouth! 'Course, I could just post a picture of the Plym and tell everybody it was an early '49... Doesn't count!

No you explained fine, I cant get passionate about engines.
For me cars are for being creative and getting girls I guess.
whoever creates the most attractive car wins.

Back to what I posted, when someone cuts a hole in their bonnet, it seems to me they cared more about thier engine than their car. In that respect I cant relate to them and cant class it as a (great) custom. anyone can chop a roof, a wise person knows when not to chop one.

The other cars posted just dont look race orientated, what Jeffrey James posted looks like a kustom, from whats been posted they just seem, to my untrained eyes to be difficult to diffirentiate between rod and kustom.

I will try again with some more pics, this one looks more race orientated.

Who Pat's car? it's always had D-spokes. His cousin in laws silver '53 has straight spokes though. Pat's car sounded evil when it still had it's cammed six in it. Kinda like a chainsaw symphony...

This could be a cool thread if it gets on track. Personally, I LOVE the 50's cars built as HOT RODs instead of Customs. Love customs too, but 50's cars built as Hot Rods are cool.

"ALL BUSINESS" seems to define the category. Extra chrome side scoops, extended quarter panels, fender skirts, etc are gonna not cut it here.

Will have to dig up some pics!

This is the last I will say on this subject for tonight, and I promise I'll give Jimmy his thread back. I like cars too. All types. The vast panacea of late model stuff, no. It does get really frustrating to go to a large gathering of cars such L.A roadster show or Grand national roadster show, and have to spend multiple hours looking at cars that to you have no relavence, and cars with skirts and dropped in the back have no relevance to me. especially when cars that are the reason you breath are ten steps away. This thread is about hot rods. I am a hot rodder. I have never owned a car newer than '71, and only one I can think of that wouldn't run faster than a 14 second quarter mile, period. So, for this little strip of the H.A.M.B. can we just see early fifties cars done up as Hot Rods, please?

This car does exist. I built it for Gibby Haynes in 97-98. After I saw Gibby drive it the first time I thought to myself " what hell have I unleashed on the streets of Austin!" At the beginning of the build he said he wanted it to handle like an Impala SS, after the first drive he said I exceeded all expectations.
