Hey I know this one. It belongs to Danny Wirt. He has a body shop somewhere right outside of Littlerock. I ran into him on the 2001 power tour when he was driving a Killer 55 nomad called Lowmad. Then in 2003 he was driving this truck with a custom tube chassis, LT-1, and air bags. He had just got it running and didnt even have any guages in it and no door glass. Had the pressure switches and guages for the bags kinda hanging from the dash. Then on the 2004 powertour it looked like this. He builds some nice rides.
I've been looking at this 53 Stude pickup sitting in a guys back yard on my way to and from work everyday. Actually I couldnt tell what it was through the trees so I finally stopped to check it out. Got him to give me a price on it so I searched and found this topic and couldnt get my mind off of it. I went by at lunch today and made a deal on it. I'll have it home by the weekend. NO rust (except for a little in the floorboard) and it runs!
heyzoos kristo!! you are in the crapper now my friend. get out now before it is too late! warning from the dark side.
Not the best pic of a future project but the longer it sits the more I think about how it will be done.... A 429 CJ and maybe some flames?? .
This is a 2R as opposed to the M series you are looking at . The bumper is a '95 Ford truck , narrowed , with shortened sides and a "D" shaped opening cut into it . 467 cid Poncho motor
So you want M-series pickups..... http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2332583230047243252usGuwz http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2653149110047243252ThNSfV
Here's a pic of the 'first' Studebaker pickup.... In 1937 Studebaker took their base model car (the Dictator) and stamped a different roof panel and cab back panel. They hung an all steel pickup box on it and brought out the 'Coupe Express'. They built approximately 3600 of them, but about 600 of them were cab and chassis, or cowl and chassis (mostly for 'depot hacks; ie: "Woodie's"). The 'other' 3,000 were pickups. Too bad the depression was in full swing, and they didn't sell very well. They built about 1300 in 1938, after a major body styling change, and then built about 1,000 in 1939 after another total body styling change. After that they said to heck with this and no pickup trucks were built in 1940. The M series was brought out in 1941 and ran until 1948, when the Ccab came out. LOT's of M's and Ccab's were built. Love the pic's! Jeff
Have you got any more pics of this truck (profile, engine bay, etc)? Looks like you nailed the stance. Eric
here's one of my rides. it was kinda rough when I got it, so I decided to go the gasser route. it's a blast at car shows to uncork the headers and drive around. done in 60's style. CRAM THE WHEEL BOTH WAYS & FLOOR IT!
