Pitted windshield question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Gary Reynolds, Aug 24, 2011.

  1. This is probably a dumb question, but I ask because the knowledge here is the best. I live in LA and every car I have gets a pitted winshield from sand and crap on the freeways. No cracks, breaks or big dings, just tiny pits. Is there any way to polish or remove them? :(

I think rain-x polishes up glass pretty well..ecspecialy well with some type of buffer. i think the small pits will always remain but the rain-x helps to hide them and will also protect from more pits. i deal with dump trucks hauling sand on the freeway every day..my 216 cant pass up dump trucks very easy...:(

Yeah there are plenty of glass places that will polish them out, especially in SoCal...

One of the big issues with trying to get scratches and pits out of a windshield, is that the buffing process can actually change the clarity of the glass. Almost like making a "lens" out of the window, and can show in minor distortion, or wavy appearance.

I drove a friends truck one time and actually got dizzy looking through his "polished" windshield. Stu
