I actually saw this car a couple years back at Franklin Tn. in a parking lot car show at the fairgrounds there.
Fantastic piece. I get stirred up every time I view this and wish I could go to the races tonight.

that pic is from a recent 2-part profile / interview in "drag racer" magazine on dick brannan [july and sept. issues - the sept. issue should still be on the stands] . i was going to mention this along with the photo , but i got distracted - and no one seemed interested , anyway .

Here is a car I would like to find still in exhistance today. Dean Haven built this car just for C/
Experimental Stock. It is seen here on it's way to the '67 Nationals with fresh paint from the night before. The 427 resides under the windshield and if I remember the numbers correctly, the rear axle was forward 18" while the front was moved forward 10". After Indy, (where the UFO and a couple others had over a half second on Dean) he decided to put the engine back under the hood and made this car an altered wheelbase street car. I think this car went to Denver before Dean got rid of it.

A sad fact is that this abomination of a '65 Chevelle roadster started life as an original 1965 Chevelle 300 2-Dr Sedan Post L-79 327-350 HP 4-Speed car! It was a racecar from the day it left the dealer's lot here in town. Within a few months, it had an Altered Wheelbase and it's original L-79 327 was replaced by a Z-11 427 engine from a local '63 Z-11 Impala. After the Z-11 engine was hurt, it was passed around a bit here in St. Louis before being sold to Mr/ Bardahl and turned into this topless monstrosity. Don't get me wrong . . . . I absolutely love MatchBash cars but I ain't feelin' the love here!

This is the ex-Tommy Mcneely Sad Sack car that Dick Harrell borrowed from Tommy late in '65. After this was sold to Jim Kirby Tommy had Hubert Platt build a copy of Hubert's AWB Falcon for 1966. Not many pictures of this car when it was the Sad Sack have surfaced. Joel

The '65 topless Chevelle posted above that I just commented on was purchased brand new by Jim Kirby but I don't remember if it was before or after his High & Mighty Chevy II. He actually has a shop very close to me and I'll ask him next time I see him.

These just arrived (10/06/11) in 1:18 scale - so thought I'd share them.

    Item #50796 Carburated version

Item #50797 Injected version - has headlamp covers, white wheels all the way around, and parachute.

#50798 California Flash - even has the rear window blow out straps, tail lamp cover panels, and inset parachute.

#50795 Sox & Martin hardtop version - with front fuel tank, no hood/deck stripes, Keystones all the way around.

    Thanks for the look...

  28. Hey guys, I built my AWB Tempest a few years back but, had to stop working on it until now that some funding has popped up. With the body and frame done and rear housing narrowed, I am now able to order all the internal rear stuff and axles so it is getting closer. Welding in the cage will be next.

Now for my question... what to do for tires?

I've decided to have it as a street car first to cruise and then eventually start running it hard in match races and exhibitions later.

What is available to us who want a vintage looking streetable rear tire for these AWB monsters?

    thanks
