50 mercury/s10 t5

    need your opinion if s10 t5 tag #145 will be ok . im using the stock overdrive rear the engine is flathead merc with cam and 4 barrel. just need to cruse, is this transmision ok?
     
  2. This needs a bump. You should use the search feature on here too, it's pretty good. Search on "T5 Flathead" and I bet you'll get some good advice. Post up some pics of your car!

    I had a built flathead in a lighter car, so the tag number means nothing to me. Filled with fresh ATF, the four cylinder T5 was wonderful. On level ground, I could start out in 2nd, the ratios were perfect. I had a 3.89 gear in back with 2:35 R 15 tires.

    thanks for the advised search car is all gutted now. had to get mouse stuff out. and i dont know how to bump. thanks

    The quick answere to your question is "probably".
    That tranny first gear is 3.76 which is generally preferred and it has a mechanical speedo drive...also preferred.

    One more tip for a newbie on searching. You might have better luck searching for info using Gooogle and throw the word "hamb" in there.
