If your going to the 2011 HAMB Drags you might want to check this out. It's a street driven 37 Chevy coupe that runs in the 9's. Yeah that's right, in the 9's and thats not a typo. It's owned by a friend of mine named Harry Stirnemann out of St. Louis Mo. You might know of his brother Jack Stirnemann that owns the famed Walker-Morrison 32 roadster. This pair of brothers is one of the best kept secrets in St. Louis as far as Hot Rod builders go. I could go on and on but pictures are better than words. Oh I forgot to tell you the best part. It's got a inline Six Cylinder (292) in it that is turbocharged. Check it out. Worth going to the Hamb Drags for.

Here's a shot of the very serious 292 Six popper with three 2's carbs

He just put on a new pair of slicks for ultimate traction at the drags.

Here's pic of the passenger's side of the motor. That big tank with tubes going to it is part of the intercooler. He pumps cold water from a tank in the trunk to the front intercooler for ultimate air.

Here's a shot of the all business interior.

That's a cold water tank for the intercooler. The fuel tank is underneath the car.

If you get a chance to hear it run, it doesn't sound like your normal 292. Enjoy

  7. I saw an article about this car years ago in one of the magazines...maybe Hot Rod or Rod&Custom??

It was one of the vehicles that turned me away from Volkswagens and muscle cars and on to old hot rods.

Great to see its still alive and kicking

  8. ...maybe not 100% trad, but one of my all-time favorite 37 Chevs!

I'll probably get flamed for asking, but wtf, no ask, no learn. Been 30+ years since I was a drag racer. When you say the car runs 9s, is that a full 1/4 mile or the "new" standard, which I think is 1000 feet? I keep seeing these impressive numbers in all kinds of posts or in conversations, and it started me wondering. I mean, in older times, when someone ran a low 6, we knew they were running 1/8 mile. So tell me, are there 1/4 mile drags any more, or is it ALL shorter now, even the sportsman classes?

Cool car, it is alittle pro street but for a 6 banger its impressive

lvlynrd, the 1000 is only for top fuel cars not others I believe.. and 9's is not that uncommon for serious go fast street cars in the quarter.... There is a wicked quick nova that run high 6 sec from your area.. its a street car...

Well, it's going to the HAMB Drags, it's a legit 1/4 mile. So I guess we'll see.

I can't honestly tell you how much boost but I can tell you it's a lot.

I've been lucky enough to ride in this car and I don't think I've ever been set back in the seat so hard. It's very impressive.

great craftsmanship. fit and finish for something so serious. did jimmy have apart of this build?

way off topic, but did Marty make it to the salt with his new car?
see ya in a few days!

  20. Purdy car, would never guess it ran 9's. Got to convince them to bring the Walker Morrison roadster to the Drags too. Spotter for sure.

I don't know how it fits into a nostalgia event but this thing is just bad. It was in Hot Rod magazine in 97-98 or so.... I thought it was billed as being able to run 9 flat or better?

    Hey Ryan

Harrry and Jimmy H know each other pretty well no Jimmy didn't have a part in this build. The car was built by Harry, His brother Jack and some help from another jimmy named Jimmy marshall. All three very talented in their own right.

Yes Marty did make it to the salt with his new car and is there as we type. See you next weekend.

It probably won't run 9 flat but I'm sure harry would like that. It's still very impressive.

Harry is a friend of mine. His car isn't perfect for the drags. He knows that... And questioned my decision to allow it. I stand by it... Because I like the car and really like Harry and what he has done for traditional hot rodding...

Every year, I let one or two cars in that aren't completely traditional, but that are interesting... Harry's is one of those.

To be frank, I don't really care if anyone has a problem with that. It's my race.

harry told me the motor runs 30 lbs. boost, and added that high boost is an indication of how inefficient a motor is.
