who else is in rural america?

I was just bouncing this around. how many of y'all are in rural america? I live in a town of 3k and the nearest "city" is 45 miles away with a population of 12k lol we have 3 hamb members in the area (which I think is pretty good) I think innovation comes from small towns, simply because it costs too damn much half the time to get a part, and its easier to make it. what was it like back in the day? how many of the hot rodders were out in the sticks?

I lived most all my life in the metro Detroit area,.. Moved up to the "Technological End of the Earth"!!! about 12 years ago,... Sometimes I miss the city,... Most times not.

 

I live in Berryville - where they did that Wendys' commercial - you saw the whole town! Two traffic lites and parking meters take nickles and dimes, a quarter will get you 10 hours! I used to live in Maine too, but i moved to the big city!

I live in a small town in Missouri, not the smallest but we are still small, we are about 40 miles from Arkansas.

 

I grew up in a village in OH. Pop of 3500. I moved away to go to school and have been stuck in the urban vacuum ever since. I need to escape back to sanity! And to where the cops had a marked 1/8 mile strip on one of the back roads and he'd race you if you knocked on his door.

 

Grew up in a small town in Vermont, been in Alabama for for 30 years and love the country life. Yes it makes it hard to get new parts, but on the other hand, there is more old tin out here in the boonies..I lived in the city for 20 years and never got used to the compaction aspect of living on top of one another, so I moved out to the farm 6 years ago!

 

Virginia is my favorite. Every chance I get I head for the Shenandoah Valley. Beautiful country .

 

The town I live in use to be prety small. We have had way to many people from the city move down here because they can buy 10 or 20 acres and put their yard art longhorns out there and say they have a ranch. And bring their big city views and politics with them. We are about 60 or 70 miles fro dfw.

 

You ain't missin' nothin'!! It's still the same ol' place..

 

I grew up in rural Ohio, smelled like pig, cow, and horse shit there too, loved it. Then the area started developing, now I live in a small village 25 miles from there. Humans 200 giveor take, stray cats 300...301....302....303....splat 302....

 

I Love living out in the sticks.

 

It used to be pretty rural here....nice and quiet. It's getting kinda crowded now, can't be more than a 1/4 mile to the nearest neighbor. Too close!!!

 

Gypsum, KS about 400-450 people, 20 miles from Salina where the KKOA Leadsled Spectacular happens.

 

How about a one horse town like HELL Michigan??? Blink once and you'll pass it right up going down the road...

 

Closest town to me has pop of 135. Nice and quiet.

 

i lwas raised in the suburbs of chicago but left when i was 17. been in the south ever since.39 yrs. lived in dyersburg tn. old small city. got to big for me and moved to falkville al. well outside falkville up on top of a mountain.(we call it a moutain , most of yall will call it a hill lol). houses sit kinda close for me but we are surrounded by woods.closest big city is about 30 miles and a pop of about 60,000.i shoot my guns off the porch, front or back, do burnouts in the drive or the road and no one says a word. god i love the country.(now)

 

Live I'n the country. Pop all three families. Town I'd spend my summers I'n, ( and r currently living I'n) as a kid is around 100.

 

I'm in a rural township but not too far from civilization (such as it is). When we made the move almost 10yrs ago I wanted to be remote. I'm glad I'm not now. 6 miles to "town", less than 10 to the city (Monroe, MI), little to no streetlights and farms all around me. Some of the locals know about Calder's Dairy and their inimitable chocolate milk and ice cream. I'm only a mile from the main farm.

 

I moved to the country 22 years ago and would never go back. 10 acres of my own and no neighbor close enough to bother me.

 

Montana is the 4th largest state, but less that 1 million people. That's the sticks. I live on 10 acres with a 48X65 metal barn that holds my pit, spray booth, and enough stalls for a 78 Mercedes Benz, 64 VW bug, 65/74 RCS dune buggy, 50 Chev 1/2 ton 5 window pu, and a 48coe 3 ton Chev 5 window dump truck. I dirve a dark blue 89 Electra either north 6 miles to Florence or 6.1 miles south to Stevensville (neither town has 10,000 people.) Towns of any size are 28 miles north or 33 miles south. I live in the 3 Mile area - not a town, but we have a general spit & whittle store with gas pumps, a school up to 8th grade, a church and a graveyard. I hunt at George's place. His driveway is 9 miles from his gate to his house!

 

I live in a town with less than 2400 people, several skunks, a few dogs, a chicken, and some cats. Twice a day,a train rolls into town, toots and rolls out. If I look up, sometimes I can see a contrail, but I cant hear an airplane. The brown truck brings good parts, and yes, there is an extra charge for mileage for him.

CBJ Farms (our dairy) 12,545 head total. 12:1 cow to person ratio....yup I'd say thats the sticks! hahaha
Wish there were some more Hambers close to me, but the only ones I've seen here are about an hour away (lubbock or amarillo)

I am in Bowdon Junction Ga, 1 traffic light, 1 store, 1 hardware/lumber yard and the post office has a screen door. about 300 people but we are close to I-20 and can get over to Alabama or Carrollton Ga pretty fast

 

Our town has about 1550 pop.

















we have had our own little club here going on 40 years. Usualy less than 10 members from around the area. We have 2 very supportive "sister clubs" one is 180 miles north and the other is 200 miles SE from us. The closest run we go to is KKOA SAlina, 100 miles one way.
