Just picked up a new project. Any Idea who built it? Came from the Tulsa Oklahoma area. I think it is a early ford front cowl but that is where I am lost. 272 Ford Y-Block w/ 3 holley 94's running off center carb only, truck T98 transmission, banjo rear with open driveline,gm front drums A axle 16' bfg's.
The car needs rewired and new ring gear and oil pan sealed up.
Is the front steering done right with the drag link in front of axle?

Any idea who built this or what it exactly is?
    What would you change?

The only thing I'd change would be the yellow paint. You've already got an old timey style rod-why worry about how to screw it up. By the way, that's the TIE rod ahead of the axle-and it's been the subject of countless threads re "Ackerman". Don't worry about it-there's hundreds of rods running that way. Just fix whats necessary and drive the damn thing.

  5. isn't the T98 a truck tranny? If so , the bellhousing is different from the car bell.......I'm not totally sure, so check it out.
    Nice ride, good luck..

T98 Is a truck tranny. I have to pull the motor and replace the ring gear.
What should I check on the Y-block why it is out? I have to change the pan gasket as it is leaking.

That's an interesting car and I don't ever remember seeing a photo of it. At least with the current paint and wheels.

I'm with the others in that the yellow doesn't do anything for me.

Do what ever you need to do and get her back on the road again. Its a rad rod for sure and the Y block is the best thing about it.

  9. The doors are VW Bug. The body looks homemade, but looks good. The cowls not Ford. I'd get rid of the yellow, but I don't hate it. Enjoy it. Dean

  10. What would i change!?
    The yellow
    The screen
The way the front wheels are way way out.......cant stand that raked out look!
Cant see from the pics but the rear end does not look like it has 'upper' radius rods, i would install them.
apart from those things, I like the car.

Go with bushings or needle bearings on the kingpins?

Like the body. VW doors look cool (who'dathunk?). Steering column no bueno. Good potential!

  14. I like it! I thought I'd seen one like that before, in a video post maybe, I always notice the Y-Blocks.

  15. I'd keep it black. Maybe do the wheels apple green, or some other contrasting color. Black wheels would look good too though. You can dye the yellow in the interior black too.

Getting closer installed new king pins and bearings, new wheel cylinders-brakes, seals bearings, greased everything.

Does it help any to balance 6.00-16 bias' on a newer style machine?

How do you guys Align the front wheels?

    Love them Y blocks !!

  19. And ditch the alternator for a generator. Might also need a fan shroud. Definitley keep it shiny, don't go for the satin/flat black fad.

  20. What you could do, is relocate the spring to the wishbone with a crosmember right under the radiator to mount the top of the spring, and move it all back so just the axle is right in front of the grille shell, that would tighten up the wheelbase.

  21. I would change all the yellow painted stuff to black. The yellow kind of hurts my eyes. Take the Rolling Stones approach and paint it black. I would also go for a generator and ditch the alternator. It is okay to run an alternator in a custom but on an open hot rod it kind of kills the look. I would also ditch the steering wheel with a nicer one from Mooneyes. That is just me I may be totally off. The Y-Block is the best part though, those are very good strong engines.

On the road....Has minor bump steer spring is at 9 degrees new king pins and bearings, everything is tight tie rods and steering box are tight...

  30. I dig the new steering wheel. I would paint the frame, wheels, etc. black. I would then paint the dash black or white and do a simple white pleated seat.
