which year had the small side vent door on the driver side. i know the 51 had the vent windows, but when i got my cab i was told the the cab was a 51, but now that i've been doing some searching i only see 50 with that vent door??

So i'm starting to think mine is a 50 since it has that vent door?

If I am not mistaken the 1948-1950 cabs had the small rear window. The 1951-1952 had the larger rear window.

    You are so right JCMARZ!

I have just realized that Ford was not the only truck maker in the 1950's.

I have seen some '51 one ton and bigger trucks with side the vent and vent windows. Early 51's maybe? I have also seen 1 1951 panel truck, a 1 ton, with both.

All of the cabs from 47/early 55 have the same size back window but the "Deluxe" cabs had the corner windows.

There is quite a bit of information here http://53truck.ez15loan.com/howto/years.htm

Other indicators are the placement of the fuel filler neck and the imprinted reinforcement on the firewall.
I'm pretty sure that you cab is a 49 or 50 due to the firewall being smooth with no raised ribs on it.
    This is a 49 firewall
    [IMG]

This is a 51 firewall off a 1-1/2 ton truck, note the H pattern ribs that the earlier cab doesn't have along with not having the fuse block on the firewall.

This is a 53 firewall again with the H pattern ribs and as you can see no side vent.

ok so heres a closer pic of my firewall. So do these 2 holes make it a 49 for the FUSE BOX HOLDER or is it still in the same place as a 50. I did see the link above that in 50 the wiper knob was chrome which the cab i have is chrome, so i guess it might be a 50? I forgot to bring the vin to check it too :(

And does any body got a picture of a 50 CAB?

    Here is a 1950 Cab

Running your Door Post S/N will tell you the year of your Cab.
Is the year listed on your title?

The original trruck i bought was a 53 with title and all, but the cab was so beat up that i had to get another cab which is the one in the pictures i posted above.

So know that i've been looking at thing on my new cab i noticed some differences. But now that you posted that 50, it looks like my cab is going to be a 49.????

If the gas filler hole is on the right side of the cab it should be a 49 cab. No biggie except for a couple of small details like the cowl vent and the way the windlace arouind the doors and the headliner fasten in.

I'm not sure that my truck has one original part on it from when I bought it in 1973. The left rear fender may be original to the truck but that's about it except for a very beat up vin tag. Due to wrecks and upgrades to nicer parts everything has been changed on the truck at least once if not more than that.

You can fill the side cowl vent to make it look more like a 53 but from 30+ years of driving my truck that vent pulls in a lot of air going down the road if you don't have AC.

I would say a 1948 or 1949 cab. My nephews 1948 had the smoother firewall like your. What type of gauges MPH and oil pressure do you have in that cab? Is the seat adjuster cable or just the rod ?

My 49 has a flat firewall, floating headliner, driver side vent, and 80mph speedo. So if that gives you some other things to look at.

yes the filler is on the right side, but from looking around i'm going to say it's a 49. The good thing is that i bought some stuff but universal for all years, but now since i know, i can but the main detail parts for a 49 :)

it was only a bare cab when i bought it, so i couldn't tell. but i got a lot of info here so i'm goin to say it's a 49 :)

Yes, The 51 doors will work with no problem. You will need to get the strikers off a 51 or earlier cab to match the door latches. (Thats why I asked)
1951 still used pull down handles

I try to pick up the 51 doors when I see one in good condition. That's the only year they made that door with the pull down handle and the wing window.
