Fatman offers complete front stub frame with MII suspension. They claim that's the way you have to do it. Don't know personally, but I have a '54 and you can't put in a MII type without doing something to the frame.

I used a Street Rod Engineering kit in mine--but it's a weld-in kit, so you have to cut the front end off the car.

Also, not the cheapest thing around.

But it is a nice kit.

The Vectra-platform rack was used in the US in the '94-03 ('04?) Saab 900/9-3, the first year or two was a ZF product, after that Delphi.

The Delphi racks are very similar to the racks used on various GM J-cars (Cavalier, etc.) and similar vehicles through much of the '80s and '90s. The input shaft dimensions are different, the pressure cylinder is different, I'm pretty sure the valving is too.

Be careful; in some retrofit applications the rack doesn't have enough travel to get a turning circle comparable to a stock box. Can't speak for the shoebox.

On non-rack modern power steering retrofits there's threads on here about using Volvo 164 boxes, someone needs to check out a box from an E32 ('86-94 7-series) or E34 ('89-95 5-series) BMW - the dimensions and configuration of the box are I think pretty similar to the Volvo box.

The Fatman shoebox rack kit sucks, they have a lousy turning radius.

Just starting 51 Shoebox. Are you happy w/their product? Stock or 2 inch drop spindles. True mustang II or coil over. Very curious how you went and if you are happy. Would love pics!

I used a Fatman kit in my 49 with a Pontiac Sunbird rack. It fit pretty well. I used Sunbird because I wanted manual steering. If you want power go with a Cavalier rack. As far as the turning circle, it's about the same as the Titanics.

However's kit you buy, check about steering radius. Some are very poor and you will end up cursing it.

Call them and talk with Brent the owner. I found him to be very helpful and easy to reach on the phone. Good luck.

Its a cavalier rack in the kit. Personally not worth the money or the mods to put it in.

Jamco has fine products, but it might take some time to get them.
If you ever consider to swap your steering box,get a 140 series Volvo box, this forum has a lot of info how to put it in shoebox and i bet you have a shitload of those boxes in Sweden.

I have a friend that ships stuff to sweden every second month.

I have a couple of 140 steeringboxes. I also have a whole basket of the fatman fitting plates for the steeringbox. Copyed it. watercutted it out and welded them.:)

Here is a pic of the steeringbox brackets I make for shoebox ford. With this bracket you can use the volvo 140 steeringbox.
