  2. No second guessing for me I like the later '30s Studes and that's a fact.

Down in the dirt and the best drivetrain I can afford. Deep maroon and steelies no caps.

I'm a sucker for the Hudson grille but as a package I'd have to go with the Studebaker. Of course, finding parts for my '37 Dodge coupe is plenty enough for me right now.

I had a '37 Studebaker Coupe Express so for me it would have to be the Stude. However, I would want the President coupe instead of the Dictator. The longer front fenders and hood on the President made the proportions just right and made the whole car a work of art.

I had a 39 Nash Lafayette that I sold to my stepson after much begging, but I think I would have to go with the Stude.

make mine a Nash... but I prefer the sedans... ( as I whisper in Mildreds ear, & she gets up & leaves with me ) ... you know those Nash sedans added the "bed in a car" feature starting in 1936 sedans ;)

BTW... mines a 38... same body style, but a nicer dash

Yeah, a '37 Packard. Either a mild taildragger or a sectioned all out custom.

I have a '37 Terraplane 4 door and there is room in the back for several Mildreds and her friends.

    I agree.
Given these choices, I would buy the Hudson.

The coolest coupe I have ever seen was a Hupmobile. It was built by a guy north of Toronto but eventually made its way into the US where I assume it still resides. Wish I had a pic of it!
The pic on page 2 of the Hupmobile is like the one I remember except it was hot-rodded.

That'll be mine - I acquired it in 1997 from Canada. It turned out to be 'lacking' in many areas and I tore it apart to re-do it the way it deserves. It is a long term project and is ongoing. The subframed chassis is being replaced with a correct and original chassis, with C4 IFS and Jag rear - may not sound HAMB compliant but that's the way it's going to be. Engine is a Gurney Weslake with eight port fuel injection and the car has been reunited with it's original front sheet metal which I ferreted out - still with it's original factory paint and pinstriping! It had the wrong year hood and custom grille fitted when I acquired it. It had aluminum bolted in as floors and firewall which are now being replaced with the correct floor pan and firewall from a sedan I parted out. Body is in bare metal and being worked on to eliminate many sins committed over the years - it had been comprehensively butchered. It is getting an original dash welded back in with updated NOS original gauges. Wheels will be stock widened artillery wheels and NOS hubcaps. In fact it will look just about stock from the outside when it is done - just a little lower and wider wheels....

Small HAMB world! Would love to see a pic of it as you received it and a few work in progress pictures too.

1937 Studebaker Coupe Express. Easily the best looking truck ever built. The shape of the cap, that front grill, the way the rear fenders fit into flares on the bed sides, the angle of the tailgate... No body mods required... maybe do something with the rear window, just lower it, put an R2 engine and live happily ever after. THAT would be my first choice over anything else built in the late 30's.

But the Studebaker Dictator would be an acceptable alternative. Maybe with some 38 Commander headlights. Maybe.

Of the three mentioned, that LaFayette looks pretty sick, low slung and long, In my mind looks like a smooth ass taildragger, and with rear skirts? forget about it! Shoot that looks custom stock! But wait til you see the 37 ford I got, but it's gonna be a while hahahaha.

That Nash in Post 15 as long as it had the big Ambassador O.H.V. 6 in it OR the Hudson in Post 27 with a Hornet engine.

    Nash...great lines and details.

But I still would be green of envy, if I'd see a '37 zephyr coupe passing by.

If it had to be a oddball 1937, I'd take a Panhard.
( not sure if they made a coupe...)
