About twenty years ago, in Downingtown, PA, I used to see a late-twenties converted pickup around town periodically. It was built from a Rolls Royce!

I remember my jaw dropping the first time I saw it.
The old guy behind the wheel smiled and nodded as if to say,
    "Yes, it is!"

That's probably a funeral home flower car; they used those to carry all the flower arrangements to the cemetery. Limo builders used to build them. We had one on our car lot about 20 years ago, a '66. Wish I'd kept it.

But it does provide a nice idea piece, doesn't it? Old Sedan DeVilles ain't worth much...

Here you go, a chopped '50 Mercury Meteor sedan delivery. Looks pretty cool, when do you start? :D I can just hear your welding supply guy giggling now.
Edit: Man did I have a case of cranial flatulence! I didn't realize I posted the pickup on this thread way back when until just a few minutes ago! D'oh!

have been chatting w/ friend down under and expressing my love for their utes. how come they weren't made in US? yesterday had a 51-52 chev that i thought was it! i guess the extended and crew cabs of the modern stuff fit the family part. i grew up in small towns/farm country, think they would have been a hit in the 40-50's.

I'm going to build one from a 56 DeSoto 4 door I have. I have been wanting to for about 10 years now. I have a large collection of Photos of cars done this way. When I have more time I will load some of them. There where some at the KKOA show this last weekend at Salina,Kansas. I love them, but some guys do a bad job of doing them. The Studabaker posted on here is a Cool one.

this is not exactly how they were built in Australia. there was a removable square shaped rear guard and wheel arch. This ute has had the 1/4 panel closed in and a sedan styled wheel arch formed. I did this same conversion on a chopped version i built for a customer over 20 years ago.
This ute is extremly interesting as it is LHD but still has Australian registration plates fitted. It was listed for sale in America some time ago.

This link will show what i have mentioned

I saw this at the Ft. Worth Goodguys show several years ago and thought it was one of the best truck converstions I'd ever seen! It started out as an Edsel wagon turned into crew cab pickup, pretty slick.

  21. I built one a couple years ago from a 37 Cadillac four door. Finished it about 75% and a guy come along and offered me stupid money for it just for the four mint fenders so I sold it......still wish I hadn't of done that
