40 willys coupe project. two days ago on ebay a 40 coupe, listed as a 41 with a wood floor, no rear floor, no dash " ETC" and all fiberglass components in poor shape sold for allmost 16 K. I'm trying to figure out if this auction was legitimate or was another deal where you have your friends bid it up ? I'm kind of shocked at the price for a willys coupe in that condition. Please don't beat me up too much on this Willys guys !!!!

  2. Seems legit to me ... steel main body. Do you know where any steel coupes can be purchased cheaper than that?

Ok !!! you guys have convinced me. I guess I'm a little behind times on the current market value.

  9. You want a cheap Willys buy a '37 Sedan and build it with a fiberglass '40 nose. Coupes are $20,000 unless they've been through the crusher and you need to press them back out.

Willys coupes have always been hard to find at least around this area. I don't even remember one for sale in the 60's when I really got interested in cars. There was one 40/41 pickup that I tried to buy and it ended up being cut in two for a trailer in the early 60's.
High demand and a very limited supply equals high prices. And what has my daughter always wanted? A steel bodied 41 Willys coupe.

i know that was probabley a good or fair price, but i just cant see it. i have loved the 40-41 willys for atleast 45 yrs now and im only 56.but from what ive seen and ive seen one that didnt have any fenders floors, trunk any place to set a windshield or one of the back glass (fenders missing, everything else gone due to rust) doors, hell there wasnt one place on that car that didnt really need to be fived or replaced,i mean REALLY bad go for 27,000.just because it was a steel(actually none left) willys.man thats more than i gave for my 8 acres of land with 2 waterfalls and a creek and 7 acres in woods.also a mobil home(sold trailer later and almost paid off my land)i just couldnt justify buying that rust hulk and pay more for it than my land.i now have a 41 willys but i wouldnt lean on itto hard . might crack it.im not going into the steel vs fiberglass thing now.but with the money i saved between the two im sure gonna go a hell of alot faster with the glass than the steel

glass cars weigh more then steel cars for the most part.less you got a race weight body?a street weight glass car has metal In It to reinforce It.I wouldnt know everything about glass though all 4 of my 1940-42 willys are steel.

modelkitbasher, have you ever picked up a glass body?i aint trying to start a argument man but my son and one other man picked up this body with doors and hood and set it on my trailer and wasnt anyone straining from the weight. id bet this thing dont weight in at 250lbs. just guessing.and its not race weight either.there is no metal in this body.all metal has to be added by guess who!this body is NOT a high doller body lol.sells for about 4500 new. i bought it from some one who didnt want to biuld it after all.to much worh he says.gonna build a cage inside of it.and it will still be lighter than a steel car.

  16. If you really check out the old gassers, the only steel in those were the body shell. Glass doors/fenders/hoods/decklids, ect were glass. Most had aluminum firewalls and floors to boot!!
