Im going to take my 63 bel air to LSR and want to lower the front before going. It has the original springs and hasn't been altered in anyway. The car is 100 miles away so Im limited on time for trial and error on cutting the springs multiple times and re installing.
You guys will full size 60-64's chime in and let me know. I want to lower the front about 2" . Might try and add some spyder caps too. Thanks Hambers

80 bucks at Ecklers you can get 1", 2", or 3" dropped springs. I cut 2 coils out of my '63 and honestly they don't hold the weight well so I'm going with a set of 3" dropped springs eventually. Go that route and save yourself the hassle of doing it twice. My 2 cents. :D

We just did my dad's 63 Bel air. He ordered 1 1/2 lowering springs. Wishes now he would have went 3". Got it apart and realized it need a-arm bushings, and ball joints. Back together now, but took alot longer than we planned. I have 2" springs and 2" spindles for my 64 Bel air. Hopefully it brings it down enough.

  8. I'm planning 2" spindles & one cut coil. Hoping to get 4" out of it.

A hot wrench should take care of the rear.

Try some aftermarket clamps to lower it first to where you like it, then make your decision...

not sure if it will stay this low. Might order the eckler 3" drop springs but wanted to see how it looked anyway. Now the back needs to come down a tad.

got the new springs in it last night at my house. only took about a hour and a half to do it this time. but my opion is that the factory cut coils gave it a better ride than what the new ones do

The 62 wagon in my avatar has 2" dropped spindles in the front and a 9" ford rear with cut coils.

what do you mean ? It only took an hour. Was a busy night between starting at 7, getting trailer to car wash and cleaning out that 58wagon and doing this. Didn't sleep til 230am.

Looks Good and I would agree to level out the rear and by far alot faster to lower than the front. Just jack it up, Cut the coil and put the spring back in and lower the jack.. Done!!!
Here is my 59 wagon on cut coils: 2 cut coils in front and 2/12 cut coils in the rear.

  19. Definitely get the backend down. I like the 14/15 arrangement. You definitely planning on spider caps?

I'd be too scared to have it as low as that wagon with our terrible oklahoma roads. The new springs actually have it up a tad than the pics posted. will lower the back next week likely
