thank you for the good wishes everyone!!! they worked! i made it to Georgia just north east of Atlanta, i am staying with an old Miami friend who now lives up here. the car performed flawlessly and i collected a lot of bugs, but nothing that cant be whipped off.

tomorrow i plan to hit the road early in the AM and try to put in 12-13 hours of driving. that would put me very close to Kansas City, KS. if anyone has an available garage / tree house / out house / office and would not mind having me spend the night please let me know. i will not be able to check on-line after tonight so please let know as soon as possible, if not ill just find a cheap motel / hotel.

I'm presently in northeast Georgia as well (Royston area) visiting family . It's hot as hell - stay cool in that slick ride ! I'd flip to see that car running down the road.

im sorry i havent checked in earlier, since i got back its been non stop trying to "catch up" with stuff around here.

 let me back track a bit...

Monday July 25, and the Shoebox is still not back together. Its my best friends birthday and I still havent packed. I got home at about 11:30pm showered, loaded that car, gassed up and was on the long road North by 1:30 am. All I had to tell me where to go was the directions my girlfriend wrote for me on a paper, from my house to my friends house in Atlanta. My goal was to leave at midnight so I wasnt too far off, I just never got any sleep.

Tuesday July 26, i make it all through the night driving, only stopped once for a 30 minute powernap. Once in GA I was welcomed with some late morning showers, lucky for me all the glass was finished in time. I arrived at my friends house just outside of Atlanta, GA, looked over the car, took a shower and another 30 min nap. Then we were off to the movies and dinner. Got a good nights rest because I knew the next day was going to be a long one. I also managed to print the directions from my friends house to the show, only I put them in backwards so I had to reverse every North with South and every West with East.

this was the only sign i could find of GA


Wednesday July 27, gas station fill up and coffee, I am approached by two Jehovah that just loved the car. They snapped pics and posed by it as I got my coffee. Left Atlanta area at about 7 am, the drive up was great because I knew I would be crossing a lot of state lines. Soon enough I saw KY. Stopped for breakfast and managed to leave my backwards directions behind. I kept going until I found a Cracker Barrel US map. These are ok, but they only highlight cities that have a Cracker Barrel. Oh well it worked, got me there. Drove straight through Illinois and into Missouri, due to traffic and my eating shit, I totally missed the state sign! Determined to find anything that said Missouri on it and park next to it for a pic, I exit the 70 only to find that my car will not idle. After fighting with it left foot brake, neutral and gassing it, Im a bit worried. The car is smoking spiting and sputtering. I find my way to an autoparts store, pop the hood and get some friendly advice from a local, its gotta carb?, if so hit it a few times with that usually fixes it. Needless to say I didnt hit my carb, I remove the air cleaner and check for gas, check. So I try it one more time and it runs perfect. Weird I think, as I go to put he air cleaner back on it cuts off, remove air cleaner and its perfect. Well $15 later I replace the air cleaner that was looking not so good, its been through a bit, especially the dust storms I drove through in New Mexico earlier this year. So I spent the night close to the Kansas state line. The hotel front desk guy was a cool Mexican guy with a Guadalupe tattoo (I carry a Guadalupe on long trips). My room number was 129 (my b-day is 1/29). I somehow knew things were going right once again.

so instead of a state sign of Missouri i give you my dirty filter

Question for you, did you ever install a rear quarter window? Never saw a picture with one installed. I just bought a 52 chevy sedan that has the top chopped off which was never finished. Going to be building a carson top for it soon. Was trying to figure out what I should do about the quarter glass. To frame one in or to leave it out.
