Awesome, glad you found one finally. One of these days when I have the space, I want a 55 Chevy or Ford COE to turn into a motorhome.

With the fenders off it looks like a freaking monster truck.

    are you in golden colorado?
man there was a sweet COE up here for $1500.oo on a 1ton ford dually set up,they show up here every once in while,

  9. Nice find, I see a 5 window roof cap,are you going to swap it over?

I would love a COE, it would be really rare over here, plus I could use it to haul my 1/2 ton to shows etc.

There's Kiwi HAMBer building a hauler on a late model chassis, the guy's a first rate fabricator and a pretty nice guy to boot.
Here's a link, check out his pics for some inspiration,or shoot him a PM.

I don't think I'm going to make it a five window.. I kinda like the simplicity of the three window..

    And I love the pics...

Right now the plans are to paint it like a 'push pop'.. Using a candy burnt orange and cream... It's a long time till paint.

  18. how different are the cabs from a regular pickup?

  19. I was going to ask the same thing.;)
I took a good look at the photos and the most obvious are the door openings and the cab structure under the cowl.

  20. i have a cab that's rotted in that area [aren't they all] and it got me thinking

The key is the hood.. If you have a COE hood the rest is 'stock' cab.. The factory just modified standard cabs and doors. The front fenders are big truck fenders that have been cut off and new flang added.
With some metal working skills, a guy could make one pretty easily.

I had forgot to give an update..
I managed in the heat to get some mockup done and got the cab mounted. The RV stuff is goin to work out great, most of the stuff can be reused and just more or less bolted back up. The only thing that I need is a new supply line for the hydraboost for the brakes, it was two inches short.

As a kid in Kansas my grandpa had one of these. Started hauling wheat in it by myself at 14 (legal for "farm errands") and man did I think I was driving something special! Loved that truck and the view from up there.

Pretty cool COEs in here. If I had one, it'd be named David Allen.
