Its an Astro -Turfer, built by Spacely Sprockets.

 

Those Mustangs have got to be the coolest tractor ever made. Simple, solid, direct drive for the blade. Worked on one a few years ago, I believe it had a 8 horse Briggs on it.

 

Thanks man!! I tried but the axles are to wide, spend more time weed eating... can't get close enough to trees, fences, etc. I have it hanging on the garage wall. My dad bought it from the back of a Popular Mechanics thinking it was a big riding mower. I only remember riding on it once as a kid. He is gone now but, I would of loved to of heard what he said when this little dude showed up at the door.

 

If anyone is ever going to run it, you MUST heat treat the blade to prevent hydrogen embrittlement!

Seriously, that thing is dangerous as it is.
I don't even want to think of the damage it could do if it breaks at speed.

Mark, I saw this ad when I was reading about "Bohn Aluminum and Brass" advertisements, made me think of your mower...

 

Went through this thread again today because it's just so cool! I was inspired to hunt a bit online to see if I could find some history. I found this - it's an H.G. Palmer push mower - obviously not the same but has some similar features. Looks like a cast aluminum deck (the raised ribs are cool). But check where the starter reel would be - looks like a hand crank?!? Anyhow, just another cool old mower. The search continues . . .

hemisteve, I haven't seen one of those starters in about 10 years. If I remember you crank it up and when you re-lock the handle it engages the starter system. Like I said been 10 years or better. Cool system though.

 

Ever figure out the Manufacturer?

I remember a chromed out customized wheelbarrow at the Oakland Roadster show from when I was a kid. I think you need one of those to go with it. while you are at it, better chrome out a rake.

 

I've actually seen one of those before. Really neat looking. I'd have never figured out who the manufacturer was.

 

Somebody had one in the swap at the Syracuse Nats... either the same, or a very similar one. Starter cord was all apart. I didn't even ask on price, the guy looked like he knew his stuff.

 

Hey Moriarity, that's cool. Now you have a "before and after" display...either that or your are trying to collect the whole set!
