Please help! ^^ not the spindle, but the arm that it attaches to that also attaches to the control arms. heres a picture of it on the car:
Uprights are us? Seriously, try Kanter....or hit Hemmings in the parts section for whatever make of car it is. Dozens of suppliers in there selling suspension parts. dj
call owens salvage (alliance vendor) got 1 from them a while back for an olds with the spindle still attached good luck
Thanks for the help guys. Its for a 51 Pontiac, i was trying to look in my Kanter catalogue but its hard to look for something when you dont know what its called!
Pontiac does weird shit. Every other car the upright is installed.....upright. Yours appears to be installed horizontally. I believe it's called a "horizontal" on Pontiacs.
one of those strange parts that you can't name unless the picture is right side up. I seriously doubt Kanter would sell them, they are not a normal wear part.
According to my 60-yr-old Motor Age Flat Rate and Service Manual, the part is called a "king pin support."
If you don't find one just pm me, my cousin sells old Pontiac parts and when I was at his place yesterday there was at least one of that vintage sitting there. Marv
In my 1959 edition "Motors Manual", it is referred to as a "steering knuckle support" in the Chevrolet section, and just as a "knuckle support" in the Pontiac section. Oldsmobile calls it a "steering knuckle support" also. There you have it. Butch/56sedandelivery.
That would be great, but as you may know, whenever you need something from somebody, they seem to fall off the face of the earth, and I need this part to drive to Sacremento in a week for Mass! So if I'm not able to get ahold of him in the next day or so, I'd like to have a backup plan.
Put it in a shop press and straighten it up and possibly put a little heat on it. I have seen a lot of suspension parts straightened after a wreck and your part is no different. You also have another side to compare it with.
is this replaceable with chevy part? never quite sure which parts were interchangeable. anybody w/ an interchange book? glad i am not the only who gets confused at times w/ the names. just thought it was from being an OF!
That is what I have heard them called for over 40 years. That would be upright and not cosmo. Now I did have to buy a cosmo for an edsel alley ostrich once it was on the shelf in the back of the old farm city garage right next to a pair of muffler bearings. But it is an entirely different part that the one that is posted.
haha i love this place. Thanks a lot guys for all the help. I really appreciate it. Turns out i got things figured out with the parts car and will be getting the upright thats not bent this Sunday so maybe i can get a good alignment and not wear out my tire every 6 months!!
