Ok I have decided to do individual threads for each of the 9 entrants in the Hot Rod class of this years Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance.

Next up is Fred Carrillo's #17 modified T lakes roadster. Frank Morawski and team did an absolutely incredible job. It was Great to meet Frank and Rich Venza.

I'm in love with this car. I'm going to use some of these shot for reference when I build my '33. The Plumbling Copper pipes used for the fuel log are fantastic as well as the many different sheens use through out the engine bay.

All those wonderful photos and no words about the car. Does anybody realize that Fred C. sold the car to Ralph Potter in Indy (Ralph's Speed/Muffler Shop). It was subsequently sold to Pete McManus (NHRA Regional Street Rod Director) who took it to Pennsylvania.

 

Thanks for the fantastic pictures! Frank did an outstanding job on this car. I hear at Hershey he is going to put it into the shoepolish and primer livery. That way no one can say it is over restored...................lol!!!

 

Actually Frank and I bought the car from Pete while he lived in Carmel Indiana. He later moved east to south/east PA. The roadster has been in Franks garage for some 30 years. During that time we have done a ton of research not only on the mechanical bits, but on the history of the car from 1949 on. What we still are not sure of is wether the car went from Ralph Potter directly to Pete. When we got it, the frame and body had been stretched to make room for a hemi. That never happened, and returning it to it's 1951 condition was helped by the cover story and Rex Barnett X-Ray drawing in the July 1952 article in Hot Rod.

Its guys like RICH VENZA and FRANK MORAWSKI that keep the fire burning in these neat old race cars.... The info and research is just as hard if not harder to do then the actual restoring...But then again, the restoration of this car is fantastic.... I saw it many years ago on a monthly basis.... I didn't believe it was the same car when I saw it finished a few months ago... A Heck of a great job.

You gotta see this in person & up close to really understand just how wild it must have been to race it and go fast sitting this low the the ground ...and to do it while on a track made of marbles (salt).... GREAT JOB TO EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THE RESTORATION OF THIS ICON!

 

Those Roadrunner decals on the nose sure look good don't they Rich?!

Rich, you still look like Col Sanders, chair or not. Thank you for the introduction....It's nice to have a new car guy friend.

Getting to lay hands on and help with this car's restoration will always be a high point for me. Thanks to Frank for allowing me to hang out and take pictures.

I remember talking to Frank about it at the old AI building not long after he got it. Yeah it was 30 years ago wasn't it? He had the Hot Rod mag. to show us what he bought. I always remember him saying that it would still roll even if it was upside down! Back then he wanted to take it to Hershey to show the old snobs of those days. I'm pleased to see that he made it.

 

Rich, Junior Potter (Ralph's son) I believe it still around the Indianapolis area (at least in the summers). He may be able to provide you with some missing info.

 

Dean, they are really beautiful. We heard about those decals for weeks before they got to the garage. Since getting them on the car, one of the guys who helped on the car has been saying he wants to steal them. Frank laughs it off

 

My brother and I were proud to be part of this operation and bring this car to Pebble Beach for Frank.
We are in most of the above pictures, we are the gray haired old Farts in gray.
We apologize for getting lost in Pebble Beach, but we have been getting lost across America quite a bit lately.
Let me also say this, Frank Morawski is a really nice guy and without a doubt a car nut.

In case you missed it, the Carrillo roadster was the centerpiece of Jalopyrama 7 this past Oct. What a beauty it is, too, thanks to Frank and Rich.

 

Lots of great pics of one of the finest modified T-roadsters out there. Maybe some more info can be added to this thread as far as specs and more technical information. Anyone know the wheelbase?

What's the black affair the front engine mount is fixed to?

 

Looks like it's mounted to the rear wishbones- my guess is that the engine and rear suspension are hard mounted to each other.
