OK. I am not one of those anal types you see at shows polishing their car every 5 minutes cause some dirt got on it. However I do need to clean it sometimes. My car is all in primer & will be that way for the foreseeable future, I have 2 little boys who love to walk by & run their hands over it. When I try to clean it with regular soap & water it doesn't remove the prints. They are still there after the water drys. Same if it rains, when it's wet the prints don't show but after it drys there they are. Anyone have any tips/suggestions for cleaning a car in primer to remove prints? Thanks in advance for any help.

Not really sure what kind it is. The guy who owned it before me had it put on.

    I like that one.

  6. I had puked out the window once on a primered car and it left an interesting pattern, so I left it that way as I felt it added character.

You'd probably need to go over the primer with a compatible clear flattener which would protect the primer.

the problem with primer is most of them are pouris [I know thats not spelled right] and absorb body oils or anything else that touches it. wax and grease remover might clean it but I doubt it.

  11. use solvent based wax & grease remover, then use a water based one afterwards...or just wet sand, re-prime, add topcoat.

Thanks everyone. Think I will give the 409 a try first.

  13. I think I used Simple Green on mine when it was in DP90. Eventually put
PPG flat on it. Still use Simple Green or window cleaner to spruce it up once a year.

I'd use fine scotch brite pads.

don't want to be putting no chemicals on primer.... Ok.. wax and ease remover maybe.. but nothing else.

  15. 409 works well. Your problem is that the little guys have oil in their skin this is not to say that they are greasy buggers. Everyone unless they have some wierd medical condition has oil in their skin. The hand prints are little oil stains.

I cant be sure, but have heard many many good things about simple green diluted properly to degrease, then apply Turtle Wax "ice" spray on wax. Makes the prime look new and protects it from future fingerprints. I'll see idf I can find the thread I was viewing and post a link for before and afters.

Heres a before and after pic of just the Turtle Wax "Ice" you can pick up from any auto store. It doesnt carry a "shine" to it, but definately makes it look clean. Good luck!

If it's been block sanded smooth go with the Mr. Clean magic eraser and probablly 409 like others have suggested. They work pretty good on my skinny whites too.

I use a little 'Awesome' on a damp sponge.
Available from Family Dollar and similar stores. $1.00 a bottle and it removes blood stains!

409 here as well...and here I thought I was the only one who cleaned up my car with it! There is always stuff showing up on mine due to being ivory color.

The black on the wagon in my avatar is base coat without the clear. It has a satin finish. Greasy hand prints wipe right off with any brand of spray detailer.

I've mentioned this product in other threads -- as have other HAMBers, but we have just what you need to care for your flat/matte finishes. Our Wipe Down product is a quick detail spray that won't add a gloss to your flat/matte finish.
