I just paid a guy $230 cash to install the winshield in the '57 Nash Metro.
I provided clean glass, NEW rubber strip and the stainless trim.

What are you guys paying to get this done? One man, one hour, at my home.

I was expecting $100 cash, but I wasn't home to make the deal (wife was)

I had a quote from a local glass company for $280 for glass, or $360 installed w/new weatherstrip

I'd say that was pretty steep compared to what the local guys charge here. it looks to me like he charged her for the glass along with the install.

I had one installed in a 2005 model car two days ago, and labor was $100.00.

I provided a new high-quality gasket which was outside to get nice and soft.
He got the job done nicely in an hour.

I guess it really depends on the windshield too . Some that are much easier than the big windshields with the big curves . I am sure that would play a big role in what it would cost to have one taken out and the have a new gasket installed . I think they get about $100 to $125 to take one out and replace the gasket and install the windshield back in . That is when we supply the gasket too .

WOW!!!! He charged HER $230! In 20 years I've never paid over $75 in labor just for install. I'd have to call him up and tell him what an asshole he is, no matter how good of a job he did. All it takes is some rope, glass cleaner and a lot of patience!

  12. Replacement supplied, $50,,,,"57 Ford truck, re-use good rubber, took less than 30 min.

i think that might just be a tad high. here at the shop, i call a glass company they drive 20 miles to the shop take out windsheild and rear glass and go no money passed. then when we are done with the car, 1 week to a yr, they come back and re-install both for us.just labor no parts and we pay them boys 60.00.i always thought they were cuttin their own throats!

$50.00 service call, includes first 30 minutes, $50.00 per hour after, so $75.00 seems about right, you got "serviced" all right. I stick with big companies and no issues, independents can do what they can get away with.

Our glass guy charges 75 for labor. I think only one glass guy that I've known or used within the last 15 years or so will install the chrome though! Unless the chrome is inserted into the rubber surround.

that seems a little high, but who was responsible for the glass if it broke during installation, the installer or owner? installing some of the glasses with the stainless in the mouldings is time consuming. therefore costs more. and would you go out and install a windshield that probably costs more than he charged, for a little of nothing? i certainly wouldn't. just a few points to ponder.

Shouldn't have taken over 30 minutes if he knew what he was doing. Maybe he did something in the other 30 minutes that was worth more!;)

The glass man who does our trucks at work charges $140 including the glass.

  23. When Joe(Houtex63)repaired the rust on the 6'5 Riviera I bought from him(I knew about the rust)he said, $400 for the rust repair, we'll pull the glass you have someone else put it back. After a few quotes of several hunderd dollars and "We can't promise we wpn't breake the glass" (WTF?), I asked Joe was it so hard a job? "He said Hell no, go buy a $25 glue gasket, and give my guy fifty bucks," Done deal in like 20 min. Like always, guy took advantage of a woman who's old man owns a specialty vehicle. You may want to dot his eye.
